To help your friend, you should first start by a search in the message boards: Make a search for Ligney in all boards. I did and find interesting facts(his wife was a McClure). From there(if it is the right Ligney), you will have more info. Then you could also look in the McClure board (McClure + florence). Then maybe if sending a message to the author asking for her help does not work, try searching approximate date of immigration to the U.S., (first born in Canada or States could give you a clue), try to access immigration record, put a message in the State Board.

There so many avenues, but remember that it is important to get all the info you can get before relaying it in your message so that you have a time frame and as much details as possible.

Good luck.

He is in the 1851 Census of Canada but the last name spelling at that time was Ligny.

bonjour Sarah:

I have done a rather substantial research of this Simon Ligney (Lignery) for someone in France about a year ago.
Results were taken from marriage repertories and local church records.

As your friend what she is specifically looking for and I should be in a position to help.
