Mary Anne dit McKenzie married Joseph Gagne, January 28,1845.St.Thomas,Montmagny.Mary Annes' parents not listed in church marriage record.Josephs' parents Joseph Gagne-Marie Gaudreau. Census record lists Mary Annes place of birth as Tadoussac. This was a Royal Post, only Voyagers and Natives allowed. The only other McKenzies listed in St.Thomas records,Death-Daniel McKenzie, age 14 months, son of George McKenzie-Veronique Blaine.June 2,1829.They are from Bay of the Esquimeaux. Mary Anne took the dit name McKenzie.Probably born just Mary Anne or priest didn't want to list her native last name. ?????????

Hello:

Marie-Anne is probably a child born out of wedlock and who was adopted by a Mackenzie family. Because of the single surname, the dit Mackenzie indicates to me that this was not in fact her true surname but that it was given to her in a sort of recognition of relationship (e.g. adoption). I have seen similar cases in the past.

Marie-Anne could have been a native.

thank you, jean marie. she listed her birth on a census, as tadoussac. this is a kings post. only traders with royal permission and natives were allowed.intermarriage was illegal.so most births between natives and traders were not recorded. the gagne family were furtraders that went to tadoussac. somewhere is a baptism record for mary anne, for her to get married in a church. i followed the female line and i am trying to get a female Y DNA line done. once again thank you.
