Still looking for James MAGEE, b. Nov. 1838 Saint Sylvestre Parish, Lotbiniere Que.
Possibly:
Father: John MAGEE, Mother, Honorah Mullavey.
His sister may have been Ann MAGEE, m. Thomas MORAN 15 Jul 1862 in St. Sylvestre, Lotbiniere, Que. She was b. in 1841.

Do any of these names mean anything to someone out there?
He is my g.g. grandfather. He moved to New Brunswick
and appears in 1853 Census, Coverdale, NB.

In the Census he is listed as born in Que., parents born in Scotland.

I would appreciate any help.

Hi Craig,

There is a Magee family listed in "The Marriages of St Sylvestre", Lotbiniere County.

Patrick Magee and Ann McCauly are listed as the parents of the marriages below:.

James Magee, m. Susanne Hern on 5 Sept, 1843
Michael Magee, m. Ann Hearn on 21 Sept, 1850
John Magee, m. Honore Mullavry on 30 Jan, 1837
Bridget Magee, m. Hugh Quin on 15 Feb, 1847

There are several "McGee" marriages as well, some of which list the same parents as referenced above. Here are all the "McGee" marriages listed for St Sylvestre:

Bridget (James & Mary Muldoon) to James Keenan, on 2 Jan, 1853
William (Patrick & Ann McCauley) to Bridget Martin, on 20 Oct, 1857
Ann (William & Bridget Monagh) to Patrick Martin, on 27 Jun, 1870
John (James & Mary Muldoon) to M.Anne McAffrey, on 20 Jun, 1854
Ann (John & Honore Mullavey) to Thomas Moran, on 15 Jul, 1862
Theresa (Patrick & Ann McCauley) to Thomas Mullavey, on 2 Feb, 1859

I hope this helps.

David

Thanks David Bergeron!!!!!
.
I think JOHN MAGEE who married HONORE MULLAVRY 30 Jan. 1837, is my g.g. grandfather!!

Their son James, (my g.grandfather?), was born Nov. 1838.
Their daughter Ann (married Thomas Moran) was b. 1841.

My JAMES shows up in New Brunswick Census in 1871 as 42 yrs. old. (b. c. 1829) The other ?, James Magee was born Nov. 1838 in Saint Sylvestre Parish, Lotbiniere, which is somewhat close, (Batch 8523502, Sheet 38, Source Code 1396071). Most importantly, my g. grandfather's 1908 Death Certificate shows his age as 70, ( b. 1838).!!!

Also in the l861 NB Census there is a THERESA listed in the Magee household (age l6). There has to be a connection to the names in the McGee marriages. The name THERESA was not very common in N.B. at that time. Maybe James' niece? Her parents being Patrick & Ann McCauley, (James' grandparents).

QUESTION No. 1::
John Magee m. Honore Mullavry 30 Jan. 1837; listed under Patrick Magee & Ann McCauly as parents: DOES THIS MEAN YOU HAVE TAKEN ME BACK ANOTHER GENERATION!!???????

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.

Any suggestions on how to get Census records of when James left Quebec for New Brunswick? It could have been
about 1860. He had a "Theresa" in the household, who would have been about 5 yrs. old....a niece? daughter from
previous marraiage.?
I have NOT been able to find his marriage yet in New Brunswick as yet.

QUESTION No. 2: DID these MAGEEs come from Scotland or from Ireland. Always in the Census it was stated "Parents from Scotland"..

Your comments, and those of anyone, would be most appreciated.

Interesting Note: My grandmother's name was ANNIE ROSE
MAGEE, (did James name her after his sister Ann??)

Hi Barbara,

I'm glad I could help! As far as getting census records, etc, I would suggest going to a Mormon library in your area. You can find the libraries, and do lookups at www.familysearch.org. Their site has been very helpful to me, and countless others. Good luck with your research!

Hi Barbara,

Just reading through these questions, and I just want to mention that we are almost related. The Thomas Moran who married a McGee was a first cousin of my mother's grandfather. I don't have any additional information; David's suggestion about visiting a Mormon Library is good; also, if you are ever in Quebec City, the provincial archives (located at Laval University) was copies (on microfilm) of all censuses. For St. Sylvestre, if my memory serves me, I think the first census might have been in 1831. I know there was none for 1851, but there is a complete one in 1861. Good luck with your research. Richard.

PS As recently as the 1960s and 70s there were McGees in the neighbouring parish of St. Patrice de Beaurivage.

Catherine Shallow Boyle is my GGGrandmother. Her dauther Bessie (Elizabeth) Boyle married Denis Lynch Nov. 1900 in Traverse Co. Minnesota. In 1979 I somehow was connected with Sister Clair and drove her from WA State back to Minnesota. We stopped in Graceville and I met many of the Boyle families. My father Joseph Lynch is the youngest of eleven children. Catherine Shallow Boyle moved with Bessie's twin bother James Boyle to Fruitland area, Stevens Co. Washiington @ 1920. Catherine Boyle
died Feb. 16, 2928 in Fruitland and ws buried Feb. 20, 1928 in Spokane, WA. I researched the "Wheaton Gazette Reporter" newspaper microfilms in St. Paul? on my trip in 1979 and one of the items was...Friday June 18, 1895 "Farm to Rent - 160 acre farm in Tara, one mile from Collis 130 acres broke, 30 acres pasture, flowing well, and good buildings, will rent for 1, 2, or 3 years. For terms write to or call on Mr. C. Boyle, Collis, Minn." I also made a trip to St. Gilles some years later and stopped at the cemetery and believe I have a picture of a tombstone of a Shallow or Boyle but can't put my hands on it at this time. I recently retired from the government job here at the Grand Coulee Dam so hope to indulge on my genealogy. Hope to hear from you.
