Re: St Sylvester Lobtiniere Quebec "Disaster" in 1868
Indeed there is still a Houley family in Saint-Sylvestre, and I think they been here since about 1830. Don't know anything about their history though.

Re: St Sylvester Lobtiniere Quebec "Disaster" in 1868
I was going to suggest signing up with both Amazon and Abe books and have them notify you when they have a copy. The title of the book is "St-Sylvestre se raconte: 1828 - 1978".
I googled the title and it may be for sale by the city of Saint Sylvestre???
Under publications on the city's web site it indicates
"In terms of cost and availability, please contact the municipal office by calling 418 596-2384."

Anne and Michael came to california during the gold rush with the Kelly family sometime around 1850's. I have several Kelly children that there god parents were Hooley, Houley or Houly's....I have a article of Michael's Death that looks like he came from Ross,Ireland the copy is horrible but if anyon Can help I would love help.

Re: Looking for Toland or Hopkins from St Sylvester Lobtiniere Quebec
I wanted to wrap up and tie a bow around this inquiry. My original question was: what caused the death of all the siblings of my grandmother Annie Jane Hopkins. Well, I have recently been given a copy of an old letter from my aunt in which she talked about the deaths of those siblings. She says they died of "black diptheria". So I guess that gives me the answer to my inquiry. Some of the others of you who are wondering about multiple deaths in 1868 - this is probably your answer, too. There was an epidemic in 1868 in St Sylvester
