Re: Deschenes of Beaumont, Bellechasse, Quebec, Canada
Hello:
Want to make sure that I have the right couple.
Did Octave and Emma get married in Holyoke, MA ?
Did the parents return to Bellechasse Co?
I believe that they did because I have marriage data for 5 sons and about 10 daughters. The latter were all married in Beaumont, except for one.
Who did Léontine married? DId she settled in the States or return to Québec?

Re: Deschenes of Beaumont, Bellechasse, Quebec, Canada
Hello: Yes Octave and Emma were married in Holyoke MA, Dec of 1892. They did return to Bellchasse Co. and lived there until both of their deaths, they were members of the Parish St. Etienne and are both buried there at the cemetery. Emma passed in 1932, Octave passed in 1959. Leontine who is my grandmother, married Armand Morin of Ham Nord at St Anges church in Feb 1922, she then came to the United States with her daughter and husband in 1923. She lived the rest of her life in Springvale ME, she passed in 1974 at the age of 70 years. Leontine did come from a large family, she had about six brothers and ten sisters, any information would be very much appreciated. Thank You Monica Leontine Melanson

Re: Deschenes of Beaumont, Bellechasse, Quebec, Canada
Hello Monica:
Thank you for responding to my notes.
It is interesting that Léontine married someone from Ham-North because her paternal grandparents had been married in the same area (St-Jean de Matha). It might happen that her grandfather was the only one to go to that area from a well-established family in Beaumont. I am quite familiar with that town because both my maternal and paternal ancestor were from that part of Québec.
I could send you the marriage data of Léontine's siblings, but keep in mind that all of them have passed away by now. However, they most likely have descendants living in that town or nearby. Also, keep in mind that the Deschene (many variations exist) had a double name: Miville dit (aka) Deschene.

Re: Deschenes of Beaumont, Bellechasse, Quebec, Canada
Hello John, Thank You for responding so quickly, I have asked my Aunt how my Grandmother might have met my Grandfather, but to her dismay, she cannot remember hearing how they met. I have most recently been to both Ham Nord and Beaumont photographing the churches and cemeteries. I have found that even with the well paved roads and speed limits, it must have been quite a distance to travel. My Aunt mentioned that her mother Leontine always missed her family, and longed for home, after seeing Beaumont first hand, I can understand, what a beautiful town. The more research I do the more information I have managed to find regarding the Miville aspect of the Deschenes name. In conversation with my Aunt who is now 81 years young, her mother never mentioned Miville dit Deschenes. I use the last name Deschenes exactly the way my Grandmother spelled it, I find it fascinating. I am familiar with the variations and am amazed at the history of the family. Any information would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance Monica Leontine Melanson
