Can someone please tell me in which county and region the Quebec town of Inverness is? According to geonames Canadian place names site, it is in L'Erable. However, I have been unable to locate a site which lists Quebec counties. Those sites I have found which are searchable by place name, list regions, not counties.

I am searching for birth records of the children of William Plowman and Margaret Manley in that city/town/village.

Any response is appreciated.

Thank you.

The MRC (regional municipal county) of L'Érable is in the region "Centre du Québec" also known as "Bois-Franc"

What you are looking for is the old county (before 1971) I suggest you contact Diane Proulx, coordinator of the Mauricie-Bois-Francs GenWeb at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~onmauric/index.htm
or if your ancestors are anglo-protestant, contact
Pam Wood, coordinator of Eastern Townships GenWeb at

Inverness is actually located in Lotbinière county. In the past, you can look for Somerset district. The region is now Centre-du-Québec (number 17). A book titled "Noms et lieux du Québec" can tell you the origin of the name and some informations about the place. I don't know if is available in english, it's a very big book, probably available in a library.

Good Luck!
