Thank you very much for the ancestry links to the Denisson family records. I, too, viewed those links and they provided the basis for the family information in the original post. Other than these records, I have reached the proverbial brick wall. I cannot verify that Michael Denisson or his wife Ann Doherty and their respective parents were born in Ireland. By 1871, Ann Denisson is a widow yet I can find no death information for Michael. In the 1871 Census, Ann and children reside in Quebec's Champlain Ward and the family's address in the mid-1850's may have been Cap Blanc, L.T. Can you assist me in learning more about these areas of Quebec? Your assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Egide passed away possibly in Oct or Nov, 2012 in Canada - not sure of the location. His father might have been Majorique Poulin - mother?. Majorique's parents are Majorique Poulin and Mathilde Bolduc.

Jean Baptiste Gourgue or Gagnon b. Quebec d. 1849-50 NYC

Jean Bpatiste Gourgue or Gagnon was born in Quebec circa 1777-1780. He deserted in 1813 in the War of 1812 at Sacketts Harbor (we can prove this). He may have been married in Quebec before 1812 as a son is found in the 1820 census born circa 1812. He is not married in the US records until 1820 when he marries Elisabeth Smith.

He went by Gaynor or Gainer in the US In the War of 1812 records Gourges or st Martin. In New York his naturalization says Ga goo

My ancestor Jean Baptiste Gainer, his son, was born in 1818 mother unknown.

I have two possible families he may be linked to one is Gagnon and the other Gourgue. One possibility is Zacharie Gagnon 1731-1831 m. Genevieve Leparien son Jean Baptiste b.1777 or Jean Baptiste Gourgue b. 7 oct 1778 son of Jean Baptiste Gourgues and Marie Mageleine Gaulin.

Any one in either of these families confirm that Jean Baptiste is in their family. Family traditions anything?
I do have the baptismal records for both of the aforementioned individuals. They are really in those families but proving one of them is my ancestor is the problem.

Thanks for the tip, pinestick! I actually came across some more information for Emilie, which I haven't gotten the chance to post yet: She was born in St. Gabriel de Brandon in D'Autray, Quebec. Her birth date was definitely August 15, 1855. I still don't know her parents' names, but her father was from St. Anne de la Pocatiere and her mother was from St. Scholastique.

So I don't think Ludger Therrien and Emelie Lacharite are the couple I'm looking for.
Marie Emilie (Therrien) Duggan

My great-great-great grandmother was Marie Emilie Therrien, wife of Arthur Thomas Duggan (1846-1900). The 1901 census of Canada lists her birth as August 15, 1855 in Quebec. The 1891 and 1911 census records also show her as being born in "abt 1856" and "Aug 1855" in Quebec.

However, I have not being able to find a Marie Emilie Therrien who was born in Quebec in August 1855. I have found some similar names in the Quebec Vital and Church records, but the dates don't match.

Also, I have been unable to find a marriage record for her and Arthur Duggan -- which would probably provide her parents' names. They were probably married around 1875/1876, since their first child was born in October 1876. The first child was baptized in Levis, while the rest were baptized in Quebec City.

Children:
*Marie Emilie Ada Duggan (1876-1877)
*Marie Emilie Ida Duggan (1880-1968), unmarried
*Marie Emilie Claire Duggan (1882-1917), wife of James Pellerin
*Joseph George Frederick Duggan (1884-1956), husband of Robena Gray
*Marie Louise Caroline Duggan (1885-1891)
*Marie Lillian Edith Duggan (1887-1891)
*Richard Henry Joseph Duggan (1889-1918), husband of Ethel Nora Goodman
*Charles Edward Duggan (1890-1970), husband of Mary Prudence Corrigan

Thanks for any help!

I am a descendant of Joseph Béland, Philomène's brother. Do you have any information on their mother (Marie Grosjean)'s ancestry? They are Jean Grosjean and Marie Allard (she appears to have been born around 1819 in St-Valier Quebec), but that is as far as I got; could not find their marriage certificate. Perhaps Jean Grosjean came straight from Alsace as many Grosjeans emigrated to North America. Thank you for any leads you may have.

DANSON and POWER in the city of Québec, 1817-1835

By a great stroke of luck, one baptism for my Danson family was actually indexed as Danson in the Drouin collection on Ancestry.com. All the rest, or nearly all, were indexed as Dawson! It is entirely possible that other records for this family in the same collection are indexed under some other name that I haven't thought of yet.

The story so far:

John Danson, captain of the brig Frances, arrived in the port of Quebec on 02 jun 1818. He was from Workington, Cumberland, England, born about 1796. On 06 jun (4 days later) he was married (Holy Trinity, Anglican) to Catherine, daughter of the late Michael Power of Waterford, Ireland. She was born about 1797. Also present at the wedding were Catherine's mother Eliza Power, her brother William Power, and her sister Mary Jane Bradley.

What may be their first child was baptised in Workington, England in 1819. The next trace is a series of children baptised at Notre-Dame de Québec 1827-1834. They are indexed as Dawson, but the text says Danson and the names of both parents are given.

I have not been able to learn anything about William Power or his sister. He is not the William Power who was a schoolteacher, that one was a son of Roger Power of Waterford.

There are a few mentions of Danson (or Dawson) on the Ships List site, and I can follow some of the movements of John Danson through Lloyd's Register, which has allowed me to trace the movements of his ship, the Frances, 1810-1822. (It first belonged to William Danson, possibly John's father).

Since the Drouin index is so horribly inaccurate -- all sorts of goofy errors were found just looking for Danson and Power -- I'm looking for suggestions for other sources that might be checked.

John McCoy
(RealMac@aol.com)

No, I never did find the information I wanted on Gregoire in 1860. What I am really looking for is his "possible" son, my great-great grandfather, Joseph Edward Barrow (aka Baraw/Bareau.) According to what I know, Joseph was born Nov. 1840 in northern Vermont. The only information I have is on a marriage certificate which listed his father's name as what looks like....Gunwire Barrow. I know that all of Gregoire and Marie Louise's children were baptized and there are records for that, BUT...there is no information on my Joseph. I am still looking........

Thank you very much for your two messages. Very much apprec iated and thank you for your time. I have completed my research on the HOULE, DALLAIRE, FLEURY, RIVARD genealogy. I spent two years, every evening and was able to compile quite a lot of data for my niece's husband, Robert HOULE, that was
2007 and 2007. I have sent the information to them. Again, I appreciate your work on my behalf.
Sincerely,
Dorothy Morris
Riverview. N.B.
