Re: Edouard Godon, St-Guillaume d'Upton, Drummond
Edouard GODON (Edouard & Aurelie Coté) married Philomène BELAND (Jean & Marie-Anne Grosjean) married 25 Feb. 1884 at St.Guillaume d'Upton (Drummond co.) Quebec.
Edouard GODON (Dominique & Marie Lafleur) widow of Emilie Joyal, married Aurelie COTÉ (Antoine & Rose Gauthier) 10 Oct. 1859 at St.Thomas, Pierreville (Yamaska co.) Quebec.
Edouard Godon was married first to Emilie Joyal, 21 Sept. 1857 at Pierreville. The parents for Edouard are listed as : Dominique Godon and Marie Lafleur. Emilie's parents are Michel Joyal and Monique Lafleur. Edouard Godon is said to be from the parish of St.Francois (du-Lac) which is right across the St.Francois river, next to Pierreville.
I think the St.Thomas de Pierreville priest made an error in naming Marie Lafleur as the mother of Edouard Godon. I've checked all over for the marriage between Dominique Godon and Marie Lafleur and could not find il. However, there is a Dominique Godon married to Emilie PERRON, and they have a son : Joseph who married Louise (Laurin) 23 Feb. 1857 at St.Francois-du-Lac.
Dominique GODON (Louis & Therese Guibord) married Emilie PERRON (Joseph & Louise Belisle) 31 May 1831 at Ste.Anne de La Perade (Champlain co.) Quebec. Their children are :
1. Joseph Treffle bpt. 09 Oct. 1832 Ste.Anne de La Perade ; 2. Elisabeth bpt. 09 Sep. 1833 Ste.Anne de La Perade, bur. 2 Nov. 1833 id ; 3. Marie bpt. 22 Aug. 1834 Ste.Anne de La Perade ; 4. Edouard bpt. 02 Sept. 1838 Ste.Anne de La Perade.
Emilie PERRON was buried 5 Mar. 1869 (62 years old). Her husband predeceased her.
This case needs further verification.

Re: Edouard Godon, St-Guillaume d'Upton, Drummond
I am a descendant of Joseph Béland, Philomène's brother. Do you have any information on their mother (Marie Grosjean)'s ancestry? They are Jean Grosjean and Marie Allard (she appears to have been born around 1819 in St-Valier Quebec), but that is as far as I got; could not find their marriage certificate. Perhaps Jean Grosjean came straight from Alsace as many Grosjeans emigrated to North America. Thank you for any leads you may have.

Re: Jean Grosjean & Marie Allard
Hi, I have not heard from you about your Grosjean-Allard info. What I have so far: (1) Marie-Anne Grosjean, born about 1835 married Jean-Baptiste Béland in Saint-Guillaume-d'Upton in 1854 and the marriage certificate says that she is the underage daughter of Jean Grosjean (deceased) and Marie Allard of that parish. (2) Searching for Jean Grosjean's parents, I could not find a marriage certificate for him and Marie Allard. (3) I did find both women's names in the 1851 census where Marie Grosjean is about 16, born in St-Siméon (could not find her birth certificate there or anywhere), Marie Allard about 31, born in St-Vallier, and Joseph Varieur, age 25, born in St-Hyacinthe (4) I found a marriage certificate for Marie-Anne's mother with stepfather Varieur in 1847 in St-Roch which does not mention she was the widow of Jean Grosjean as is customary, just she was was of age and the daughter of Étienne Allard and Marie-Anne Chamberland. I don't know when the trio ended up in St-Guillaume. So Jean Grosjean remains a total mystery to me, and I would appreciate any information you have on him and his marriage to Marie Allard (perhaps their child was illegitimate and he gave her his name but would not or could not marry Allard?) Thank you! Francine Houle
