Surnames: Atkinson
Possibly, I am tracking a Henry Atkinson (b. abt. 1772 in Scotland) a wealthy wood merchant that lived on the Spencer Wood estate in Silley (quebec) in 1833. If this is the same Henry Atkinson that is in our family tree, his wife was named Elizabeth (Cameron? b. abt 1800 in England) and he had two daughters - Elizabeth who married a John Brewer (my side of the tree) and Georgina who married a Donald Kennedy and moved to Eau Claire WI.

I can't find any additional information about Henry however. We are speculating that he may have migrated back to England after the collapse of the Ottawa lumber industry where his wife's family is from (some family stories suggest that she may have been Lady Cameron - unconfirmed).

If you have any additional information, we would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Mike

Here is what I found. Don't know if it will help or un-help you!
For what I have found, the Henry Atkinson of Quebec city is supposed to born in 1790 in York. He had at least 3 brothers (Anthony, Edward and William) that came to Canada before him. He arrived in Canada 1n 1812. I don't know if he was married. I know that he take care on Edward's son, Henry b. 1929) after the death of Edward from Cholera in 1929.

Hope it helps you

Best regards

I'm late to this conversation. I hope you guys are all still around. I am also looking for information of a lumberman from Quebec City. Mine is John THOMSON, born Aug 12, 1793 in Scotland. he was manager of Sir John Caldwell's mill at Etchemin, QC and later own his own mills in in the Quebec area and in Buckingham QC on the Ottawa River. He was married Isabella HENRY (Bo'ness Scotland) in Quebec and had a bunch of kids, one of whom was Andrew THOMSON (see link at bottom of note).

I am related to CAMERONs of Ottawa through my grandmother Katherine CHRISTIE (b. Ottawa 1887). My grandmother's grandparents were Sir Henry Newell BATE and Catherine CAMERON.

Any relation??

BTW, I have hit a huge brick wall with John THOMSON. Hiw tombstone says he was born in Ashkirk, Scotland on August 12, 1793 but there is is absolutely no record of any John Thomson being born on that date anywhere in Scotland (that I have found)

Any help would be welcome. Have a look at me tree to see if there are any matches.
