Hello all,

I'm trying to find out who are the ancestors/parents of Charles Latour, born abt 1755 in Québec. Charles may have been illegitimate, he may have been a Métis. He married Marie Modeste Labranche in 1778 in Baie St Paul, Québec.
Can someone help I hope? Thanks

Hi Yvette,
Here's what I found on these two who are also my ancestors
by their daughter Agnes, who married Jean-Francois Tremblay
in my direct line. This line of Latour Balard was deported from Acadia in1754 and Charles was probably born in Southern USA, he arrived in Baie St-Paul probably about 1776 or 1777.
I couldn't found anything else on him, so I stop searching
his ancestry, because he was probably never registered, tho-
se acadian where almost like the black in the south.
If you ever found something else, please tell me. Bye.

Guy, according to the PRDH, Marie Modeste was one of 4 illegitimate children of Marie Catherine Gertrude Laforêst dit Labranche, daughter of Joseph Laforêst dit Labranche and Marie Barbe Bouchard. The other 3 siblings were Jean Baptiste Labranche, Marie Juste Labranche who was a twin with Marie Modeste and Marie Catherine Labranche who married Jacques Vincent Tremblay 1/25/1785 at Baie St Paul. Fathers are unknown.

Yvette,
The answer you gave me has la lot more sense than what I had
been told, two years ago, at the Centre de Genealogie here
in Montreal, so I had stop searching for him. Thursday I'm
gonna go to the Centre and I will look in Drouin for the na-
mes you gave me to complete this collateral. As to Modeste
Labranche dit Laforest, the only thing I have, is that she
was found as a baby, parents unknown and adopted by a La-
branche dit Laforest, that I never found.
Thanks again, for this information. Guy Tremblay

Hello Guy, I'm a bit confused because the information I have shows that Charles' father was Augustin Balard dit Latour son of Augustin son of Louis from Bourgogne,France son of Pierre from Bourgogne, France. There is nothing showing they went to Acadia from France but rather to Cap st Ignace, L'Îslet, Québec.
Do we have the same Charles? I do know that one line was from Acadia but I can't tie them in to mine. Thanks for your help cousin.

Hi Guy,
Here is my line from Charles Latour.

3. François-Xavier Tremblay m 1890-2-10 Célérine Simard at St Urbain,Québec.

4. Thomas-Michel Tremblay m 1912-10-14 Alexina Lavoie at Manchester,N.H.

5. Bertrand Tremblay m 1938-8-20 Angelaure-Gertrude-Juliette Champagne at Manchester,N.H.

6. Myself m 1960-9-17 Ceslav Reitmayer at Manchester,N.H.

I have 1 son, 1 daughter, 1 grandson and 2 grandaughters.

My Champagne line is the Acadian Orion/Orillon dit Champagne so we're mixed up with the Gaudets, Comeau and a lot of the old Acadian families. Through the Champagne line, Madonna is my 5th cousin once removed.
It looks like we're 4th cousins once removed.

Anyway, I think I told you I live in Oceanside, California; right now it's really windy and cool, no summer yet.

À la prochaine cousin,

Yvette Tremblay

Hello Guy, glad to help. Charles was one of the most difficult for me to get information on and also Marie Modeste. Thank goodness for the PRDH where you have the actual source about births and deaths and also all the witnesses and godparents from the original records. If you want more info on the Labranche side, I have it, also for the Latour family. By the way, we must be related, do you know to what degree? Do you live in Québec? I live in California.

Yvette,
I could never thank you enough for your informations on Chs
Latour et Modeste Labranche, I had stopped to search 2 years
ago having been told by a former employee of Tanguay, who is
known as a specialist on Charlevoix genealogy, that it was
impossible to find anything about these two. You've convin-
ced me that the word "impossible" doesn't exist in genealogy
Thanks again and a very good day. Guy Tremblay

Hi Guy,
I just wish we had something like the PRDH for after 1800; it would be great!
When you say the wives of our ancestors, which ones do you mean? I may be able to help.
As for Modeste, she was illegitimate and there is no father named anywhere.
Let me know your progress please.
Your California cousin,

Yvette Tremblay
