My great-great-great grandfather was David Youmans. He was born in 1803 in Athol Twp., Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. He married Ann Mowers Blakely, and died on July 9, 1880 in Collingwood, Grey County, Ontario, Canada. They had a son, David, born 1848 in St. Vincent, Grey County, and died 1890. Could the son and Rev. David Youmans be the same person? I am looking to find out who the parents of David Youmans (Senior) were. Do you have any information?

Dear Amy,
There are many Davids in the Youman family and it's very easy to confuse them. The first one was the son of Arthur
and Sarah, born 1771, probably in Orange County, NY and later on, he was the David of the Methodist church, a circuit rider in many parts of early Ontario. Tom Glad has him as his own, and probably he is right. We just need a bit of proof that David and Sally, his wife, had the 2 daughters, one of which married a---?Mute/Moote in Smithville, Lincoln Co, near Niagara
(David Youmans served as a chaplain during the war of 1812 in the Niagara area and his daughters could have been about 18 or 20 then, and met husbands and married there. It is a great story and probably true. The United Church of Canada records have alot of info on David Youmans the circuit rider.

Now, the other two boys in Arthur and Sarah's family (Eleazer, 1764 and Arthur, 1774) had Davids as well One is the David who went to Grey County in 1847 to St. Vincent Twp.He and Anna Blakely had a David as you well know, since he is your ancestor.

Eleazer's David in Camden Twp. near Napanee, Ont. m. Sarah ann Wood. I didn't know that he moved to Michigan, but I guess it is possible . There was a great migration west.

There are alot of Sarah's here. Arthur's Sarah doesn't have a surname, at least yet. I doubt if it was Orser. I think Tom has confused Arthur's mother with his wife. It is complicated and I am going to write him a letter and complain about that one little thing. I think her last name must have been Scott, because there was one land petition made by David the CR, her son, that has his middle name as Scott. I've spent alot of time and money trying to track that one down. I think she died in Warwick, and is buried in the Old School Baptist church cemetery there. Keep in touch. I might get to the bottom of this yet someday. (Just because a Sarah Youmans is listed as a death in those church records in 1791 doesn't mean that this is SHE, but I think it is.)

Also, I doubt if they had a Richard in 1770. Never heard of him in that family at that time. I'll ask Tom.

JEAN
