Am looking for information on the MONTGOMERY family of York (Toronto).
Alexander Montgomery
from Inverness, Scotland - first went to Stantford, CT then Gagetown, NB around the American Revolution.
His son John was born there @1784
In 1798 they went to York
His son Richard was born there @1807
John married Mary (?) and had a son John who became a doctor (don't know if there were other children). John Sr. was the owner of Montgomery's Tavern of Rebellion of 1837 "fame". He was arrested, etc. but escaped to Rochester. Following the Amnesty of 1849 he returned to Canada and contined to operate hotels (his father Alexander was in the same business). He died in Barrie in 1879.
Richard married Hannah Smith and had 13 children, including my g.g.grandmother Nancy Montgomery Quantz. Richard died in 1873 in York.
I am especially interesed in information on Uncle John and his family, but any and all info is welcome. I have info to share as well.
Thank you,
Joanna
