I am descended from George McLennan through his son John. They are living in Chinguacousy Twp., Peel Co., in the 1851 census. The son George who was 18 yrs old in this census married a Mary Currie in 1864 and was a minister. The son Alexander who was 10 yrs old in the census married a Flora Atchison in 1870. John married a Martha Kaye in 1868. If you think we might be related, feel free to contact me.

Hi Carol,

Thank you very much for answering my Wellington query, McLellan name and for being so helpful.

A while back I telephoned the McLellan's in the Mount Forest area but, unfortunately, we are not related.

Thanks again.

We might be distantly related in some way. From my line, I have a Catherine McLellan (christened 11 May 1794 Kilarrow, Islay, Argyll, Scotland) - she was the daughter of Angus McLellan(d) and Isabel Campbell. She eventually married Duncan McCauley and moved to Canada in about 1832. She had a brother Dougald McLellan (christened 2 Apr. 1802 Kilarrow, Islay, Argyll, Scotland) who married an Ann Campbell. My Catherine lived in both Peel County and Wellington County. Her Brother Dougald shows up on the 1837 Home District Directory as living at Chinquacousy West. It appears that he eventually moved to Wellington County where he lived in Erin Township.Dougal and is wife Ann are buried at Conningsby Cemetery, Erin Twp, Wellington County.

Hi,

Thanks for answering my query.

The records I received from Jane Watt, Peel County Ontario Genealogy Society a few years ago had the spelling of McLellan and since it seems my great grandmother's parents, Donald and Catherine Darrach (Darrah) lived close to George McLellan, I thought there could be a connection. Also noticing that George had a son, Alexander.

George might have been a half brother (my great grandfather was born in Islay). The family might have moved to Inverness (I have read your queries on the Wellington site)

Anyways, I am now convinced that George could not be a relative as the spelling is McLennan (I've told myself, that you would know the name is McLennan as you are a relative to George).

Thanks very much.

My husband is a descendant from George McLennan as well. George McLennan had 2 marriages, the first to Janet Frazer and they had sons George born 1835, William born 1837 died shortly after arriving in Canada in 1843, Alexander born 1842 and your John born1845. Janet died 1847. He then married Jane Glover and they had 10 children on being Andrew McLennan, my husbands great grandfather. Sometime around 1872 George McLennan and family moved to the Manitoulin Island and George McLennan died and is buried there.
