Mark Baxter & Eliza Jane Dowling Baxter
I am looking for info on Mark Baxter (1820-1902) and Eliza Jane Dowling Baxter (1826-1899). They lived in Wellington from about 1861 through 1902. They are buried in East Luther, Dufferin, Ontario, Canada.
I would like to find info for Mark's parents and brothers and sisters.

Re: Mark Baxter & Eliza Jane Dowling Baxter
I see where Mark's death is just an index. The registration number is 007722. Died 1 Aug 1902. The full registration, if there is one, would be in the Ontario Archives. It may give parents. 1901 census gives immigration date of 1843. That immigration won't be on line. 1841 census England has only one Mark Baxter, aged 21, born in Lincolnshire, living North Thoresby Lincolnshire. I think he could be an apprentice blacksmith. Civil registration began in 1837 in England so he was born too early for that. I checked the IGI but no luck there either.
1851 census Caledon, Peel County has a Mark Baxter, blacksmith, b England, aged 30. He doesn't live there but lives in Erin.
1861 has him in Erin so I guess this is the same person.
Just looked at the 1841 English census again and unfortunately Baxter seems to be a Lincolnshire name. Any chance you can get his obituary? They usually give family names, parents, etc?

Re: Mark Baxter & Eliza Jane Dowling Baxter
Thank you for the information on Eliza Jane Dowling. Her parents were John & Thersea Dinsmore Dowling. Her brothers and sisters were William, James, Mary Ann, Almiria, Lucinda, John and Francis. Are you connected to the Dowlings? John Dowling was my husband's 4th great grandfather.

Re: Mark Baxter & Eliza Jane Dowling Baxter
Hi Joy Sorry to branch away from the original request! It looks like we do have a connection of sorts. The two Dowling girls, Almira and Mary Ann, married two Leflar brothers, George Delse and John A. They are both 1st cousins (4x removed) of mine. I do have some descendant information for them if you'd like. Unless you already have it of course

Re: Mark Baxter & Eliza Jane Dowling Baxter
Hi JD,
I did know that Almira and Mary Ann married the Leflar brothers but I am always interested in more descendant info. I like knowing where all these distant cousins are today. :)
Thanks, Joy

Re: Mark Baxter & Eliza Jane Dowling Baxter
You may have been in contact with my daughter Barbara Baxter Jenkins. We are working together on the William Baxter family history. William is my grandfather and we have the family tree fairly complete from him on down to the present. However, I still am looking for information about William's siblings John, James, George and Mathilda. I have found two families in the Walla Walla area that are descended from a James Edward Baxter and a James E. Baxter. I am interested in following up on this and also trying to find more about John, George and Mathilda.
I have made some progress on Mark Baxter's birthplace in North Thoresby, Lincolnshire England. There are numerous Baxters in that area and I am confident I can track down someone that may know who Mark's parents were. We do know that at the time of Marks departure from England (about 1843) times were really tough in that part of Lincolnshire. If you would like to share information please let me know. I am currently a subscriber to ancestry.com.
Best Regards,
Paul Baxter
