The Uper Family Cemetery is located in Allanburg, Ontario, in the Township of Thorold, in Welland County. It is located within walking distance of the Welland Canal ( which was built long after the cemetery was established. The family lived in Thorold Township, in the village of Allanburg, Beaverdams, and Thorld itself. One of the oldest plots is of a Lt. Anthony Upper who fought with the Butler's Rangers.

The Upper homestead was used as a Military post during the war of 1812. The Niagara Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society published the transcriptions of the family burying ground. Family can also be found in St. Catahrines in Lincoln Co., and Fonthill Municipal Cemetery in Pelham Twp. My 2nd Great Grand Aunt was married to a William Upper opf that family. They lived in Beaverdams, then moved to Michigan between 1892 and 1912. They returned to Beaverdams, and were buried in Allanburg.
Some of teh family members ran a tavern in Allanburg.

I have an obit for a Lee E Upper born april 1891 in Michigan Married a Mary L Horton my Mothers side. Oct 29 1914. D Oct 29 1973. Also have one for Kenneth H Upper b Dec 22 1917 in Mt Morris Mich. Son of Earl W Upper and Myrtle Browne. Died Apr 14 2002. I have a Franklin Upper born 1867 in Ont Canada and married a Ida May Buck. Also chasing a Johnson and Tubbs line in Canada. There was a George Johnson that married a Margaret Tubbs They lived in Mudge Hollow at one time and died in Ft Erie. Cant find any records for them. Believe they died young by 1840. Richard Johnson moved to Paris Canada to live with Samuel Tubbs when his parents died according to his obit but no dates. Samuel was in Michigan in 1842. htubbs@comcast.net

There seems to be this movement of Uppers into Michigan around the 1890's. My connection is William Upper of Allanburg, that married Janet Riddell. She was my 2nd great-grandfather's sister.

Some of the Uppers came to Canada in support of the King, and some of course, stayed in the States. William & Janet lived in Beaverdams in Thorold Twp., Welland County until 1892. They removed to Michigan ( I think Lansing), and then returned to Beaverdams in 1912 when Janet had a stroke. Their daughter went by carriage to get them, and brought them back. Janet died in 1912, and William followed in 1914.

The Upper Family Cemetery is located in Allanburg ( not far from Beaverdams). It is a private Cemetery. The Niagara OGS has transcriptions avaliable.

What information do you need on William Franklin and son Lee E.? I have them back to early 1700's. Let me know if this is of interest.

I have Franklin Upper and his kids but only his birth in Ont Canada. I dont have anything on Ida May Buck. I have Lee and Earl and Alta births and deaths but no place born. The rest of the family i have names but nothing else. I have Lee and his wife Mary Lorreta Horton my Mothers side. I have one daughter Eleanor Upper marriage date unknow and she married a Joseph Abbott. Havent gotten into the rest yet. Still trying to streamline the Tubbs family. Fathers side. In case you didnt know it Beaver Dams is now St. Catherines Ontario. Brock University now sits on the site of the brish Camp there. Remember your related to the Ingersolls-

No, I didn't realize that St. Catherine's is the old Beaverdams. When I visited Thorold, St Catherine's, and that area two years ago, I got the impression that Beaverdams was a section of Thorold. Thank you for the information. That might help me track down more of my Uppers, Vanderburghs, et al.
