My grandmother was a sister of Nel Rutledge, the wife of John Dooher. John and Nel are buried with a Catherine Irving in Gate of Heaven Cemetary in Niagara Falls New York, along with the Burnses and Hughsons. We have assumed that there is a relationship between Catherine and Mary Irving, but have not yet found the connection. We find Michael Dooher married to Mary Irving. He is a widower in 1881 census. We find Michael married to a Mary McNulty in 1883, and her death record in 1895.

We show the parents of Michael Dooher as Edward Dooher and Elizabeth Hughes.

If you haven't already done so, you should check out the online site of Fairview Cemetery in Niagara Falls, Ontario. There are several Doohers buried there and there is a digital photo for one of the Dooher plots. This is the link to the search box page: http://www.niagarafalls.ca/city_hall/departments/parks_recre...

Buried in this cemetery are:
Mary Dooher - Section C, Plot 0107, Grave 4 (no photo so perhaps no stone)

In Section C, Plot 0158, there are 5 burials with one gravestone photo (first three names):
Michael J. Dooher 1834-1907 grave 1
Michael E. Dooher 1875-1906 grave 2
Winifred "Winnie" Campbell 1846-1892 grave 6
Edward Dooher grave 4
William Harry Burns (baby) grave 5

If you type into the search box other surnames on your family tree, you may come up with more burials. Also, if you contact the cemetery you may get more information regarding the above burials.

FYI I have no connection to this family...just trying to help.

Kate, thank you for sharing your information with me. I did know that some Doohers and Catherine Irving were buried in the Gates Of Heaven. Some of the names were only first names, do you happen to know which Hughsons' are buried there? Again, thank you for your reply! Jeanne

Apparently both John and Nell died in the Spanish Flu epidemic that hit at the end of WW1.

There is further information online about James Patrick Dooher (1933-2007), son of William and his wife Agnes Dowling Dooher and grandson of John and Nell. At these two sites you will find a lot more names to add to your family tree:
