Death: Ancestry.ca

I'll let you decide on these:

Death:
Charles Dobbie Gray, b 31 Mar 1874, Chippawa Ont, general service man for Hydro Electric Power Commission, father: Robert Gray b Scotland, mother: Marion Orr, b Scotland, Informant: Mrs C D Gray, wife of 32 McLee St Niagara Falls, burial: Drummond Hill Cemetery - City, died 3 Dec 1920 of acute gastritis & heart failure, Niagara Falls, Welland County, Registration # 039055.

I thought as second name was Dobbie, there may be a connection.

Helen Orr Gray, b Glasgow Scotland, 30 Sep 1835, 95yrs2mth212days, widow, father: James Orr, mother: Margaret McNair both b Scotland, Inf: Miss Annie Gray, daughter, of Chippawa, burial: Drummond Hill Cemetery Niagara Falls, died 20 Dec 1930 of myocardial failure subsequent to chronic myocarditis. # 036779, Chippawa, Welland County.

So Annie was still alive and single in 1930.

Robert Gray, b 23 Dec 1833, Scotland, died 23 Nov 1909, father: William Gray b Scotland, mother: Helen Dobbie b Scotland, Informant: Chas D Gray of Chippawa, died of paralysis throat & probably abscess on brain, paralysis for 10 yrs. The doctor was A Gray of Chippawa [ maybe a relation?]#030279, Chippawa, Welland County.

Found this birth: Anna Ellen Gray, 31 Jul 1899, Robert Gray and Ellen Orr. Annie on 1901 and 1911 census was b 1877. Ellen couldn't possibly be her mother - she would have been 64 in 1899 so Anna Ellen belongs to somebody else. Possibly Annie?

Marriage:
Robert D Gray, 39, b Chippawa, carpenter, Robert Gray & Helen Orr, married Mary Mayer, 32, b Buffalo, Allen Mayer & Christina Foster, 25 Jun 1903, Welland County. [no children found for them]

George D Gray, 20, b Chippawa, living London, miller, s/o Robt & Helen Gray, married Mabel Foley, 20 b Bowmanville, living London, 24 Sep 1898, London, MIddlesex, # 007944.
Only chidren I can find for them are George Robert, b 1893 and Mabel Reen, 25 Mar 1891.

On 1881 census Chippawa www.familysearch.org , Robert & Ellen are there with James 19, Robert 16, Archibald 14, George 11, Charles 7, Annie 3. Children all b Ont.
I just looked it up to see when the children were born.

1901 census www.automatedgenealogy.com says that Robert immigrated 1838 and Ellen immigrated 1851.
1911 census on above site, Helen/Ellen, widow and Charles, Anna and Lorne[grandson] are on it. Next door is Robert and Mary Gray.
I haven't been able to find a birth for Lorne to see who he belongs to. He was born 1893 so should be on 1901 census someplace.

Lorne was in WW1.
Gray, Robert George Lorne,
Address: Chippawa
Military Service # 845573
b 14 July 1893, London Ontario
Trade: Clerk
Next of kin: Mrs George Office, sister, of Chippawa
Previous military experience: 44th Regiment - two camps.
Signed up in Hamilton, 20 Feb 1918.
He was 5'8", fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair.
Distinguishing marks: vaccination, 2 birthmarks left shoulder, hearing normal.
Lorne's parents are George Gray and Annabelle Foley [ from his sister Mabel Rein's marriage registration to George Office].

1851 census Ancaster, Wentworth County has a Robert Gray, laborer, b Scotland, 19. He MAY be living with people named Russell, also b Scotland. 1851 census does not separate families.

Thank you for sending so much information. Many things fit with some exceptions. My great grandfather William Gray listed his mother as Ellen Dobbie on his marriage certificate and his father as Robert Gray. They were married in Winnipeg Manitoba. I have Ellen buried in Chippawa Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Stamford. I am puzzling over Helen and Marion Orr. Can you tell me what your sources are for all the Orr information because I notice that Charles lists a Marion Orr as his mother.

In regard to Anna Ellen Gray - she was born in 1877 not 1899.

Also, there might be a transcription error for the marriage date of George D.Gray because his children were born several years before he was married. Again, could you tell me your source?

Are you related to any of the Gray or Dobbie families? I am wondering what your interest in them is?

You can view online digital photos of the gravestones of several of your Gray ancestors buried in Drummond Hill Cemetery in Niagara Falls.

Section 04, Plot 0390
Robert D. Gray
Helen Orr (on the same stone as Robert D and presumably his wife)
Charles Dobbie Gray
Anna E Gray
George Robert Lorne Gray

In Section 02 South, Plot 0059 there is another family of Grays. The head is Archibald Gray who is buried with his wife Margaret Henderson, both born in Falkirk, Scotland. They appear to be buried with 4 of their children William "Willie", Allison, Agnes, and Archie Dobbie Gray. Also buried in the plot are Charles Henderson Gray and his wife Hulda Gray. I wanted to bring this family to your attention as the Dobbie name is found also in one of their children's names.

Here is the link to the site where you will find the gravestone photos. Just type in "Gray" in the search box and proceed from there. Click on the little thumbnail photos to see the enlarged versions.
