Hi Barbara,

I don't know if this is the right Dorothy Hainer, but UE Loyalist Albert Hainer of Grantham had a daughter of that name who married a David Putnam 24 May 1807. She made two O.C. (Order in Council) applications for Land grants on 16 Aug. 1810 & 20 May 1817.

This information is from William Reid's book "The Loyalists in Ontario".

Too bad there is no mention of Albert's wife's name.

Thanks for your response. This is the Dorothy Hainer I am looking for. Dorothy's mother was Catherine Vollick, d/o Isaac Vollick.

I did not know that she had made 2 O.C. for land grants. I will have to take a look at this "Loyalists in Ontario" book. Thanks again.

Barbara - I am looking for more information on Zachariah Hainer. My info is that he was a UEL and served with Butler's Rangers in the Revolutionary War. He was married to Sophia Brown. Would you have run across him in your search for Hainers?

Do you know what happened to David Putman? Did you know Dorothy was married to David. That there are two Dorothy Hainers. Both Derrick & Albert named a daughter Dorothy. The other Dorothy married twice. Once to May, then to Colombub.

David Putman is Dutch then he can be connected to the Dutch Putman's of NY

Let me know what you have on David & Dorthory.

Did Francis have siblings? Brothers? I would like to know if I am connected to this branch of Putman's

yes in the book as mentioned Loyalist in Upper Canada.

on page 136:
Dorthory is listed twice with first husband ; John May [is this a LeMay of Quebec decendant?] m. 5 Aug 1802 O.C. 15 May 1805 daughter of Derrick Richard Hainer. ????

on page 135:
Dorthory is listed with second husband David Putman of Lough
but this one is listed with a father name of Albert???
Wait a minute are there two Dorthory Hainers?

This is all very curious. Did Dorthy if only one of them cclaim on her Uncle Albert???? for Land???

Oh this is exciting is there one or two Dortohry Hainers???
This question is for the Hainer family are there two brothers both with a daughter Dorthory? She why you should never ever name your child a first cousins name!!!!!

Help Please,,,,,,

Is there more then one Dorthory Hainer?

Married to John May
Married to David Putmna
Married to Colombus Gildes

A few books plus websites along with diffrent family trees.. even here on Ancestry.com.

My back up comes from:
I am most interested since I also may/have a Dorothy Hainer in my Putman line. [still researching it out].

I found a book by William Reid "The Loyalists In Ontario" . In two places Dorothy Hiner is listed with a diffrent father & husband. this book is about the land grants given to the Loyalist from the American Revolution. The soilders received 100 portion*, soilders children received 50 portion, non-commised offices 200 portion. {*I use portion since acre is not the same area}

On page 135 she is with David Putman:
which reads:
Hainer, Albert of Grantham.
Dorothy, m. David Putman of Lough, 24 May 1807. O.C. 16 Aug 1810; O.C. 20 May 1817
[10 other children are listed as well]

On pg. 136 she is with your John May:
which reads:
Hainer, Richard of Grantham, m. a dau of Issac Vollock, U.F., [Derrick Hainer & his wife were at Niagara in 1873] **
Dorothy, m. John May of Grantham 5 Aug 102. O.C. 15 May 1805
[7 other children are also listed]

So I am thinking are there are two women of identical names or is this one woman with more then one husband?

So did Albert & Richard both name thier first daughter Dorothy? Were these brothers also married to Vollick/Van Valkenburgh sisters? Annajte & Catherine. But in the Van Vajkenburg web site on Annajte/Hannah is listed as married to a Hainer. In fact Dorothy is listed with three husbands there all of which I have already mentioned.

Such is this dilemia of Dorothy Hainer, May, Colombus/ and or Putman.

Now I did see printed in the Niagara marriages Dorothy Hainer listed as marriages to both David Putman & John May. I have not seen a record for the Colombus marriage.

**There was a census of 1783 in Niagara, taken Nov 30 '& Dec 1 1783**

Please let me know what you think and of any offical documents you have come across. That could prove of one or two of these Dorothy.
