Would you please look up Balthasar Kress, born 4 July 1813 in Germany, immigrated to US in 1850s, married and lived in Dubois County, Indiana, 1855. We do not know the village from where he came. Also, would you look up possible relative to him, Johann Paul Kress, born approx. 1812, in Germany, also settled in southern Indiana. Thank you,
Michael Kress

Thank you for the quick response. Would you be willing to check for Balthasar as Grass or Gress? After his arrival in the US, we have seen Kress surname variations written as Gress and Grass for the 1860 census, land purchase documents, and church records. Much appreciated, Michael Kress

No I don't see any Balthasar's with the various spellings.
Were they from Hesse Darmstadt?
Most of the entires are from the 1830's-1840's.

We are not certain if he was from Hesse Darmstadt, only that his widow provided that info to census takers in 1870. His naturalization document indicates he came from Crestfuldo, in 1858. However, we know the date is in error, as he was married in Aug 1855, verified thru church records and county clerk's documentation. We have not found him on any ship's record, but believe he immigrated prior to 1855. Thanks for your assistance.
