Just starting out my research on my boyfriend's family. Unfortuanately, the family knows little about their family tree. I am looking for an Ira Knoll, who was believed to have lived in the Waterloo Region. Ira would be the father of Kenneth, 1895-1966 who is buried in Kitchener, born in Baden(?). Any help or direction would be appreciated as I am at the end of my genealogical rope. :) Also, any information on the Mittleholtz, Mittelholtz, and Lamka surnames would also help a bunch.

I am also looking for family tree information on the Peter Mittelholtz family(my great grandfather) married to Elizabeth Gruber. My Grandfather was Francis Edmund Mittelholtz. If you know of any connection send me a note. Brenda Mittelholtz-Kehoe

This is the first inquiry I have made about my grandfather and your note appeared. My grandfathers name was Edmund Francis Mittelholtz. I do not know a lot about this side of my family, as he passed in 1980 and my mother also died 24 years ago. I know my great grandparents were from the U.S.; I believe from around Bemidji, MN. I think they divorced and my grandfather was raised by his siblings in Canada. He was in WW1 with the 48th and 96th Highlanders. Survived Vimy Ridge. Married Emma Blanche LaMotte, farmed, and raised two boys and a girl (my mother Wyonna Alice).

In case you don't have this - here are his enlistment papers (2 pgs) - says he was born in Ont. & is living in Sask. with his mother living in Montana.

This is likely the early history of your family.

I am working on a book about the early RC German's of the Waterloo area.
This will be part of it.

Joseph Mittelholtz {about 1793-after 1860} and wife Veronica Zettel {about 1791-after 1860} of Wurttemberg, Germany were married in 1818 according to the 1861 census of Wellesley Township, and arrived October 15th, 1830 at the Port of Boston on the ship Wolga. Other Mittelholtz people on the ship include Francis H. {about 1810}, Josephine {about 1816}, Francisca {about 1824}, Constantine {about 1824} and Bridget {about 1826}. Children of Joseph and Veronica Mittelholtz include Bridget {about 1826} {William Beysang-Beisang-son of Leodegardi?} married in 1848 in St. Clements, Simon {born about 1831 in USA} {Maria Dörr-daughter of Peter of Prussia, Germany} married in 1854 in St. Clements and ended up in Stephen Township, Huron County, Ontario, Samuel {about 1838} and Andreas {about 1835-1910} {Elizabeth Moser}{about 1841-1908 in Perth County, Ontario} married in 1860 in St. Clements and of Mornington Township. Children of Simon Mittelholtz and Maria Dörr include Catharine, Margaret, Maria, Peter, Andrew, Bernard and Susan. Children of Andreas Mittelholtz and Elizabeth Moser, daughter of Francis Moser of Waibstadt,Germany and Wellesley Township, include Joseph {1861} and Carl Louis {1862}. Note: Veronica Zettel is likely a sibling of Lucas, Carl and Lorenz/Longin Zettel and Maria Burkel nee Zettel.
