Violet Lousia Unwin

I am looking for the death dates for Violet Louisa Dillman (nee Unwin) and Leo Ellsworth Dillman. Both are according to someone who helped me today burried at Little Britain, Bible Christian Cemetery. Mariposa, Victoria.

Am also looking for more information and photo's of this lady.
What i've found so far is:
Violet was born in Cambridge UK in 1902. Her parents were William Unwin and Rachel Smith. In 1906 she was baptised. Round 1912/13 her mother left the family and only took the youngest daughter (Lilian Unwin) with her.

In 1921 she married Leo Ellsworth Dillman in Canada. According to emmigration papers she and Leo travelled to Canada in 1949. I was able to contact some her family here in the UK but they lost contact with Violet around 1965.

Someone who helped me earlier this week told me they lived in Ontario, Victoria, Little Britain. Also according to a recent Obituary someone send me, Violet and Leo had a son named Wallace and two daughters, Doreen and Shirley.

thanks for any help.

Hello Beth! William Wright appeared in the 1861 census of Mariposa with son Richard, wife Sarah Cooper and family. His age at the time indicates that William was born about 1776. His daughter Sarah was born in 1814 in County Down which suggests the family originated there. William died on 10 April 1861 and is buried in Black's Family Plot on Lot 5 Con. 13 Mariposa Twp. I have seen the Wright gravestone there. (That lot belonged to pioneer John Black and is diagonal to Richard Wright's Lot 6 Con. 12.) William's wife Elizabeth (maiden name unknown) was born about 1780 (likely in County Down) and died 8 July 1848. She was also buried in Black's. William and Elizabeth's son John was born about 1819 in Ireland and their next known child Richard was born on 15 March 1824 in Cavan Twp., so the family came to Canada between 1819 and 1823. The Wright family may have been related to or very close friends with William Copeland and family on Lot 6 Con. 13 Mariposa who arrived in 1825. My William Cooper (1824-1870) was reportedly born in County Down as was his wife Maria Copeland (1824-1909) who was a daughter of William Copeland There is more to report but I'll await your response to this message. Please contact me directly at dcooper7@cogeco.ca .
Wayne Cooper

I am trying to find out where they came from in Ireland. I am happy to compare notes. I have learned a lot since I originally posted here.
I have some information on this Wright family. Sarah Cooper (1828-1866)wed Richard Wright (1824-1917) on 23 May 1843 in Mariposa Twp. Both are buried in McIndoo's Cemetery, Mariposa. Sarah was the youngest sister of my William Cooper (1824-1870).

Hi Murray, I wanted you to know that I had relatives called Gimbert who emigrated to Ontario in 1887 and they stayed with a Charles Burke in Toronto who had a son Oscar born 1872 in Michegan, who had a son called Murray Maxwell York 1895. Oscar Burke married one of the Gimbert girls, Ada Mary Gimbert. They lived in the Toronto area (York I believe)where MM was born. He married Hazell Dancy. That is as far forward I have gone and obviously my Gimbert interests stopped me researching further back. Hope this might be of assistance. The name leads me to believe you may be connected. Regards Evie

Do you mean Taylor's Variety Store on the main street? It was owned by Mr & Mrs Ed Taylor. I don't remember about the motorcycle accident, though. If that's not the store or the people you were thinking of, I know there is a book on the town and it's buildings that would probably be found in the Fenelon Library or the Lindsay Library.

On another branch, I've got a Hugh McKinnon born 12 Aug 1823, Tyree, Argyll, Scotland. With a brother named Neil. Not sure when Neil was born.

Hugh & Neil McKinnon both ended up in Shoal Lake, Manitoba after first arriving in Ontario.

Hugh married Ann R Rose born 15 Apr 1830, Scotland, but I don't know where or when they were married. They were living in Ontario in the 1871 Census and they were in Marquette / Shoal Lake, Manitoba in the 1881 Census. All of their children were born in Ontario. We are related to their daughter Barbara, born 20 Jul 1864. Barbara married Robert John Johnson on 2 Mar 1885 in Manitoba. Robert was born in Ontario 23 Feb 1858. Robert & Barbara Johnson's daughter Florence Victoria Barbara Johnson is my husband's Grandmother.

I feel there's probably a connection between these two McKinnon families, but I can't figure out where they connect.

If we find a connection, then it will connect my husband's family with our daughter-in-laws family. Which would make for an interesting family story!

My Archibald MacLean was born in Tiree Argyll Scotland, married Catherine McKinnon born 10 July 1836. She had a brother Hugh born May 1839 Tiree Argyll Scotland. The MacLean family moved to Man where Archibald, Catherine and Hugh passed away. There one son became a famous Dr in Winnipeg.
