I'm sorry, there are two Augers mentioned in the book, and they are: Ian and Martin. The book does not cover Elk Lake area.

Dear Bonnie ...
I would be grateful to know if my grandparents and mother were mentioned in the book: Frederick Austin DAY (Grandfather), Helen May LOUX Day (Grandmother) and Helen Margaret DAY (and her brothers and sisters).
Also, sister to Helen May LOUX Day: Naomi LOUX Rankin, and her husband, John Ireland RANKIN and their family.
I note that my uncle Edward James DAY was born in 1922 (don't know exact dates) - and wonder if the family were still in Haleybury at that time.
Thanks for any information you may have!

There is no mention of Rankin or Loux in the books. The following is what was mentioned for Day:

Page 9 A Guide to Historic Haileybury
At the opposite southeast Main Street-Ferguson Avenue corner was Haileybury’s first hardware store opened in 1901 by John Westron. John Bell and George Rochester then bought the business, enlarging the building to accommodate their corner store and the Bank of Nova Scotia in the eastern half, with lawyers Fred Day and Wesley Gordon in the offices above.

After the 1922 Fire, Georgina Farr bought Noah’s house from then owner Fred Day for herself, daughter Emily and son-in-law Stuart Blackwall. Today this house rents as apartments.

The only name mentioned in The Great Fire of 1922 was Mrs. H.A. Day on page 336 and it simply says: “Mrs. H.A. Day left for Sault Ste Marie on Friday, after enjoying a ten-day visit in Haileybury”

Thank you so very much ... this is indeed my DAY grandfather and his sister-in-law, Mrs. Harry A. DAY. So, the only clue is my great aunt's visit - undoubtedly with my grandparents and their children.

I guess there is no way of telling if they still lived there at the time of the fire itself. I know they moved to Toronto at about that time. It would have been interesting to know if the fire was the precipitating cause of the move.

Thanks again for this tidbit for our history! Karen

Whow ... this is wonderful and I thank you very much! My uncle Sandy was born 29 Jun 1920 at Toronto General Hospital but was not sure that the family had moved to Toronto at that time. Uncle Edward was born in 1922 ... so the mystery persists.

My mother and her twin brother, Helen Margaret & Frank Loux DAY were born in Haileybury along with 5 other children (2 who did not survive infancy).

It's wonderful to have the street address for "The White House" that mother has photos of in her scrapbook. Let me know if you want copies of the photos for your history files.

I am wondering if they are mentioned in the book about the great fire in Haileybury in 1922. It is possible that they were living there.
John VanDette was my father. I'm reaseching my family history.
