The PETTIT family of New Liskeard
Trying to find some descendants of James Pettit and his wife Permilla. Her obit in 1947 (buried in New Liskeard Cem) says she was survived by 4 sons and 1 daughter.. Also had 13 grandchildren & 28? gt.grandchildren. Her obit states she as a widow came from St. Thomas, ON 44years ago, (as of 1947 = 1903), one of the first pioneers to the district. She had sons Samuel, William, Frank (married Hattie Cragg), John Wesley, and daughter Georgina m Ollie Mason, moved to Toronto), who all lived in the area. Anyone know of these families?

Re: The PETTIT family of New Liskeard
Ann -- I'm definitely related to the Petit family of New Liskeard, but not to this couple. And wouldn't you know it, I'm in the middle of transfering my genealogy files over from the old computer so can't access them on this one. However from emails with other related people I can tell you that I'm related to them through my Dobie family by this marriage: Andrew (Andy) Pettett or Pettit born about 1881, occ: Lineman, married 14-Sep-1911, in Haileybury, Ont., Elizabeth Dobie, born 1-Mar-1884, Mosa Twp., Middlesex Co., Ont., (daughter of John C. Dobie and Barbara A. King) died 17-Feb-1920, New Liskeard, Ont., buried 18-Feb-1920, New Liskeard, Ont.
There were many other Pettits living in New Liskeard at the time and I've gotten emails from several researchers. If you want, I'll send you the emails of these people -- I have your email address from the Rootsweb mailing list where I first saw your query.
Cheers, Chas. Dobie.

Re: The PETTIT family of New Liskeard
Hi Charles, how wonderful to hear from a distant relative to this family! You are related to this Pettit family because they did have a son Andy, b Feb 1881, found in the 1881 Census for Dorchester, Middlesex Co. I didn't mention him in my previous message as I didn't know if he survived childhood.
Permilla is my grand Aunt, sister of my grandfather John Wesley Bowden. I never heard our family talk about her at all, except to say they went to St. Thomas when she married. James, her husband died somewhere around 1902. I have her obituary as posted in the New Liskeard newspaper of 1947.
I would be happy to receive those e-mails whenever you can manage that, as well as info on Andy's descendants. I would be willing to share ancestor descendant info if you are interested.
Thanks for responding, Cheers, Ann

Hi Ann,
My grandmother was Elva Hager, daughter of William Hager and Permilla Anne ( Annie ) Pettit. Both buried in New Liskeard Pioneer Cemetery.

Re: The PETTIT family of New Liskeard
I have a picture of the headstone for William Hagar and Permilla Pettit. I was there this spring to see the headstone of Hannah Grant, who married my 1st cousin, 3x removed, Hugo Brown.
Do you know if Emma Pettit Cornell, b. Apr 21, 1852, daughter of Mary Ann Wood and Ezra Cornell, is any relation. The name Pettit in her name leads me to think there is a connection to a Pettit line somewhere.
