Catherine Vandal Sinclair Chagnon

Surnames: Chagnon, Lamy, Sinclair, Vandal, Charbonneau
Catherine married my great grand father, Toussaint Chagnon. Toussaint had previously been married in New Hampshire to Emilie Lamy. They moved to Manitoba where Emilie died in 1886. Soon afterwards, about 1889, Toussaint married Catherine. I have no information on where they were married but they are listed in the 1891 and 1901 Canadian Census as living in Manitoba. Catherine had previously been married to Samuel Sinclair and had children by him. I'm quite certain Catherine was Metis and was the daughter of Joseph Vandal and Adelaide Charbonneau, both Metis, but have not been able to verify this.

I have been unable to find any primary source date on Catherine beyond the Census records. Other peoples trees have her born July 12, 1853 in Lockport, Manitoba but I haven't found that record on the Manitoba site. Ditto her marriage record to Toussaint and her death record.

Does anyone have accurate source data?

Many thanks,
Lenore Mason

Surnames: Chagnon, Toussaint
There is a death for a Catherine Chagnon at Manitoba Vital Statistics. Date of death 24/May/1927at Winnipeg.
Date of birth given as 12/July/1862.
Might be worth the $12 to see if this is the Catherine married to Toussaint and if her parents are listed
on the death record.

Serena, I'll look in Gail's "Metis Families" tomorrow and see whats there.
I'm not sure if this clears anything up or not. The Vandal people seem to be
very prolific.
There seems to be 6 different Vandals with birth years prior to 1800. I'll
try to list them tomorrow, as its getting late and its going to be a hectic
morning.

Thank you so much for your reply. I think I will send for the death certificate. Manitoba is still in the Dark Ages with these things but sometimes you just have to do it!
