I am looking for the date of birth and date of marriage for my grandmother who grew up in Sudbury. Her maiden name was Lola Guerin and she was born in Byng Inlet. She was married to Rolland Joly in Sudbury in or around 1930. She lived in Sudbury until her early adult years after which she and her family relocated to Little Current on Manitoulin Island. She had three daughters (Jacqueline, Judy, Francis) and one son (Jack / Jean-Paul). She had a sister who lived all her life in Copper Cliff - married name Johnstone.

St Anne's Sudbury.
Did the priest get names of her parents wrong?

Border Crossing Buffalo NY

M Leola Guerin, 16, domestic servant, b Byng Inlet, contact in Canada: mother, Minnie Guerin of 368 Wellington St Sault Ste Marie Ont, going to Mrs Geo A Murphy, 28 William St Brookyn NY, 11 Feb 1930.

I did not find a birth registration for her. The above items are the only information I found on her but both give the same birth dates.
Births are only released to 1913 but they may have been late registering it or maybe not at all.

Thank you very much for the material you provided. The date of birth is helpful for sure. It looks like the priest did get the parents name wrong. Interesting that she was going to New York at 16 to work as a servant / maid - I didn't know that but it makes sense. Byng Inlet was a town that depended on industry related to natural resources and its hay-day was ending around the time Lola would have been 16. As I try to track down the date of marriage do you think that microfiche of the Sudbury star a good place to begin? I wonder if there is a database of marriages in the Sudbury area? A database that could be searched?

Dear SandyJboo1 - Thank you very much for the image you so kindly sent to me. It very clearly shows that Lola Guerin was born June 2 1913. This looks like a primary document and it clearly identifies both parents. Can you tell e what this document is referred to in "the genealogy business"? Thanks again - this is really awesome.

This is a Registration of Birth from the Archives of Ontario
and is on line at Ancestry.ca. Births available from 1869-1913 and Marriages from 1801-1928.

The marriages for 1929-30 are now available to the public and 1931 will be later this year when indexing has been completed.

These records can be accessed through Intra-Library loan or at Family History Centres.

I am wondering if anyone has access to the marriage certificate for Lola Guerin (b June 2 1913 Byng Inlet) who married Roland Joly (b Sept 3 1911, Sudbury) in Sudbury Ontario. I am not sure which year they were married. I need a primary document that shows who Lola Guerin's parents were (for an application for Metis status). Lola died Feb 18 1969. There seems to have been an error in recording her parents on her registration of birth (which I have). I'm not sure if the death certificate would show who her parents were. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Tim Smith
