Surnames: Genier, Prieur, Quesnel
Hello everyone,

I am a university student doing a very long research paper on my ancestor, Louis Genier, who was one of the founding fathers of both the Saint-Albert village and the Cheese Cooperative Association, established in 1894.

I know the typical information: birth in Saint-Anicet, baptism in ", two marriages to Elise Prieur, and Celina Quesnel both in ", (daughter Victoria is my great grandmother), I also know his cause of death in 1912: diabetes (loving the death certificate available on Ancestry.ca)

Whatever information that isn't typical, or if you have any primary sources (government documents, letters, diaries, maps, newspaper articles, etc.) concerning Louis Genier, that would be INCREDIBLE!!!

I'm also having some trouble with Ontario land documents, as I know he bought pieces of land in Ontario between 1870 and 1900, but I've tried looking how to access them, and to me it's a huge puzzle.

Thank you so much in advance,
Sophie

Have you tried the Clarence-Russell library for documents. I know there is a picture of Louis with his first wife Celina Quesnel circa 1890.

I will keep an eye out for anything else

Yes, I have seen that.
Celina was his second wife, because he first married Elise Prieur.

You're welcome.

I've attached here an article that is significant in that it establishes that in 1891 Louis Genier held the municipal polical office of Reeve in case you were not aware of that.

OH MY GOD!!! YOU ARE SO GOOD!!!
How the hell did you find this?
He did hold the municipal office on and off for about 15 years until his retirement in 1905. I'm so impressed that you found this article, I finally have a primary source to prove he was in fact Reeve!

I am forever grateful to you!!!

Here is another searchable resource that will provide you with instances where Louis Genier was inlcuded in some archival directories:

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/canadiandirecto...

Enter "Genier" into the search field and check each of the results. He appears in at least two of them in which the listing indicates the Concession and Lot # where he resided/owned property.

Yes! I had already found which concession and lot he lived on. Gilbert Genier was his older brother, this is a primary source that proves he was living in Ontario before his first marriage.
