Virginia Briyar (believe to be Brière)
Hello everyone, Thank you in advance for reading this thread. I found a Virginia Briyar/Breyar in the home of my great great grandfather Louis Génier (Russell Township, Cambridge. I believe her last name should be Brière as even my gggf's name was written very poorly (Luie Genie) She was 18 years old at the time of the 1871 census (the only source I've consulted), while my ancestors were 23 years old and their daughter was 12 months old. Her occupation is listed as "farmer", identical to Louis Génier and his wife.
If you have any information on this woman, it would be very helpful. Sophie

Re: Virginia Briyar (believe to be Brière)
The maiden name of Elizabeth (Louis Genier's wife) was Prieur. I've figured out that maybe Briyar was suppose to be Prieur... What do you think?

Re: Virginia Briyar (believe to be Brière)
Sorry I messed up on that 1881 census. I don't think it was your Virginia as it says she was married but here is the complete information. The writing is hard to read but the name has been transcribed as Benieque in Russell, Russell County. Virginia, 28 b Quebec, married Jule, 4, b Ontario They are living with Michael and Sophia LaTour, aged 67 and 68.
I see the Prieur name spelled Preyear on 1861 census so Briyar could be Prieur.
From Druoin Collection [Ontario ] This is in French so I have just picked out dates and names Marriage: Embrun, Eglise St Jacques, C Russell Ontario
15 July 1872, by banns, Godfroi Clement, son of Andre Clement & Zoe [cannot decipher last name] of Cambridge married Virginia Prieur, daughter of Philippe Prieur & Marguerite Quesnelle of Cambridge.
1861 census Huntingdon Quebec PRIEUR Philippe, farmer, 37 Margaret, 35 Elizabeth, 12 Xavier, 11 Virginia, 9 They are living next door to a Quesnel family who could be Margaret's family QUESNEL Baptiste, farmer, 59 Julia, 48 Etienne, 19 Napoleon, 17, blacksmith Caliste, 9 Marceline, 28
The Quesnels are living next door to a Grenier family but no Louie listed.
1881 census Cambridge Russell County There is a Godfrey Clement with parents Andrew and Zoe which match marriage information. But his wife is Domikla? aged 26 and with a son Godfrey born Feb 1881. Virginia die?
Marriage: Godfrey Clement, 30, widower, farmer, of St Albert Ont, s/o Andrew Clement & Zoe Andriault? married Domitilde Carriere, 25, b Ste Scholastique Quebec, d/o Basile ?? dit Carrier & Domitilde Beaune?, witn: Basile Carriere of St Scholastique & Nathalie Clement & Cleophas Belanger both of St Alberts. 7 Jan 1880, Church of St Alberts, roman Catholice, Cambridge Russell County.
I cannot find a death registration for Virginia except for the one below which I don't think is her.
There is a Virginia Clement buried 4 Oct 1879 but I don't think it is the above Virginia. Says daughter of ? lsan Clement & Juliette/Julienne LaChaine. Baptism a Virgiina Clement on 18 May 1862, parents Antoine Clement & Julienne St Dennis.
Godfrey and Domitilde had a number of children but I don't see any listed for he and Virginia.
Hope this helps some.

Re: Virginia Briyar (believe to be Brière)
Hi there,
Yes, the Drouin collection from Embrun, Ontario is correct. I have also found that. She did marry Mr. Clément in July 1872. She did die a year later and was buried in 1873 in St-Anicet, Huntington, Québec. Your guess is as good as mine for her cause of death. I wish we knew more about her, she is mysterious hehe. Perhaps she died while in labor, and the child died as well? I really don't know. Godefroy did go on and marry Ms. Carriere, and they also had a child together, but only one is what I recounter from my research.

Re: Virginia Briyar (believe to be Brière)
Hmm, that's interesting! Because Virginie/a was his first wife, he might of honored her by naming his third child Virginie/a even though he is now married with his second wife.
My mother did a similarly thing naming my brother after her brother passed away suddenly.
That's nice, thank you so much.
