Thank you for your prompt reply. We did already have a copy of the SS Montrose's passenger manifest, and it actually shows that they came from Emly which is in County Tipperary, Ireland. We know his brother Thomas moved to NY City and died in Hopewell Junction, NY. However we do not know what happened to John Hayes, except we have a hand written undated note from him to his brother in Ireland, with an address of Russell, Ontario (no street address). John is the one we are very interested in. Any other information you have would be appreciated.

My name is Mary Boland, and I was born in 1961 in Russell, Ontario. John (Jack) Hayes lived in a tiny house on my parents property. He died on May 8, 1972. He was sick for a while before he died and he lived with a Wall family at that time. When me and my brothers were little we used to visit his little home frequently, and on occasion he used to babysit us. He is buried in Russell. He had enough money when he died for his burial, and a tombstone (which my parents commissioned with a shamrock on it), and my parents sent the remainder of the money to his brother. I guess now you would say he was an alcoholic, but my Mother never had any second thoughts about leaving us with him or us visiting him, and I understand my Grandmother (who I never knew) was very fond of him. He was a hired man for her after her husband died. And my aunt said he had a lovely singing voice. My father and his brothers and sisters are all gone now, but my Mother remembers him well. I also remember him having a dog named Lucy for awhile. I believe we have a photo of him if you are interested. Are you a relation to Jack?

Mary, I am writing on behalf of a solicitor in Ireland who is involved in the estate of Mary Hayes, deceased. She had three uncles who had emigrated: John (Russell, Ontario), Thomas, and James.

Although all three brothers are deceased, we need to find their children. James died unmarried in Connecticut. Thomas married in 1939 in NYC. We believe he had three children: Michael, James, and John, but we haven't yet located them.

Do you know if Jack had any children?

You mentioned that the remainder of Jack's estate was sent to a brother. Do you know which brother and where he lived?

Anything information you can share will be appreciated.
