Wow, this is so funny. Your grandfather was my Uncle. So you must be Marla's grand child. All the other grand kids I think would know the Gus and Lydia story but maybe I am wrong.
Your Grandfather was named after his dad who was killed in a train accident in Sleeman Ontario.
There were a lot of kids. In order of age
Gus, Ted, Helen, Earl, Violet, Edgar, Russ, Ross,(Russ and Ross were twins Ross died as a baby) Buddy was born to a diferent father (Hoover). He was named Ross after the twin that died but everyone called him Buddy. Gus was married to Rose Lefebvre. When Gus was killed in the accident they had to leave their homestead. They almost starved to death the first winter after Gus was killed. That is when Ross died.
Your GF married Lydia. She was quite a character. Your Gus had a glass eye and he used to put it in a spoon and scare us with it when we were little. He was living in Geraldton, when he died. He was my favorite Uncle.
I just gave all my family research stuff to my daughter she is working on a college project. When I get it back I will send you some pictures I have of them. You can e-mail me at

Your right. I forgot he was living with Elaine and Allen and they moved. I went to Lydia's Funeral but couldn't go to Gus's because my mom was really sick at the time. Gus came often to my home so did Lydia. Every summer and fall we would go to Rainy River to see Gus and Lydia and the kids. I remember the saw mill well. We would play in this huge pile of wood shavings. Thats how Gus Lost his eye. We would also go to the Cemetary where Gus and Lydias son was buried and Gus's Mom (Rose) was. They had an old wood burning stove and we would get water either from the river or from an old well that Lydias Dad had next door. Did you ever meet Them?
Who are your parents? How are you connected. Where do you live?
I have been looking for information on Christion Martin or Amalia Hemp they would be Gus' fathers parents. Anyway e-mail me at my home address. I am glad to hear from family. I hear grom Elaine and Alan on a regular basis. Sometimes Marla too.

Hi Jennifer,
I am also researching Gustaf Martin from Russia who married Rosanne Lefebvre. I have just added some homestead documents for his father Christian in Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
Gustaf's daughter Violet was my mother in law.

My husband, Doug Bigler is Evelyn Wagness grandson. I am helping him build up his family tree for our kids. Can you lead me to few info about the family. Grandma Evelyn gave me a few information but I am not sure of the town in Austria is right.

Hello, just got a hint from Ancestry that your family decendants are Tiongsons from Malolos, Bulacan. My husband's mother was a Tiongson from the same area. She was orphaned at an early age and we are having trouble finding relatives or information. She was Flora Zulueta Tiongson, born 1906, died 1984. If you have any further info, I would surely appreciate it.
Thanks!
