Please send me some dates to work with and I will see what I can find for you. Try searching for Clarks in the Lennox and Addington County and Frontenac County of Ontario. There is also an Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid site which is fantastic, and try browsing for records here as well.
: http://my.tbaytel.net/bmartin His site is worth a look.

There are so many Snider / Snyder families dating back to the late 1700's as they came up as loyalists. Try searching in the Lennox and Addington Counties in Ontario Canada, and Frontenac County as well. They are beside each other and my family is split between them.

This is deffinetly not 'my' William Clark. The Clarks are such a huge family from the loyalist immigration and many of the Clarks had large families of 10-13, mostly male. There are a number of William Henry Clarks as well. I do know for sure my William married Mary Elizabeth McConnell. His parents were Lewis Clark and Hester Jane Montgomery of Portland Township, Frontenac County, Ontario, Canada. Her parents were Joseph George McConnell and Amanda Elizabeth 'Mandy' Boice or Boyce. Many of the family can also be found in Ernestown, Lennox and Addington County, Ontario, Canada.

At this time I don't think there is a connection, but I am not going to rule it out.

I have found some information on my William, such as birth and marriage and census.

The Clark family is huge, and many many descendants have a huge loyalist connection. Please look at my tree and if there are any Clarks in there I can help you with, please let me know. I have many resources from the Kingston area history societies.

Hi Ian,
I have been working on Clifford Bennett Nourse's Picton family and recently found that his wife, Sidna, studied photography in New York after the accidental death of her husband. If you are comfortable with it I would love to get one or more of her signed photos of Reginald Nourse and family to see the kind of work she did. I confirm they were no relation altho' living next door. Perhaps they are descended from the Nourses of Weston-under-Penyard who emigrated from England to the US?
Regards, Steven Staples

Hello,

I am currently researching this end of my stepfather's family tree and have run into a bit of a road block.

I have the information for George Brough b.1831. The census for 1871-1901 have him listed being born in England. His death record has his parents listed as John and Eliza Brough. There is no information indicated where he actually came from in England. I haven't even found definitive proof that he came from the Yorkshire area and it seems like this is the same area most people researching the P.E.C. Brough line are stuck.

If any one has any additional information, please send me a message via email. It's my username at Hotmail dot com.

The common ancestor is Henry Nourse (1781-1834) married to Dorothy Christian (1783-1830). He was born in London and inherited a prosperous wine business that he expanded by trading at the Cape, South Africa. He moved there in 1820 and died at Grahamstown in eastern Cape Province. Clifford Bennett Nourse was his great grandson. His great granddaughter was Ina Nourse who was my mother.

I came to Canada in 1963 (chief planner at Expo 67), married there and moved to Toronto in 1970. Since divorced and two children, Marc and Julie.

Will send two files to your email address with all details.

Steven

Thanks for your message. Perhaps you could tell me a little about how the Staples and Nourses are related. I have not seen the family tree you mentioned and I really don't want the 14 day trial on ancestry at this time, as I am too busy to make good use of it. I look forward to when things slow down a bit and I can take some time to pursue some family history in greater depth.
Nancy

Thanks Nancy for the info on Clifford and Sidna et al. I am not sure if you have seen my Staples/Nourse Tree where I have quite a bit more info on Clifford, particularly his army experiences. Also was finally able to figure out from various other sources how Gordon Beverly, Dorothy (your mother), Lee, and Alan fit together and which you confirm. But the stuff that only family knows is great. Incidentally I have gone on your interesting website and see you are in TO as am I. Maybe we can meet if you would like - I have family here. We also have Nourse cousins living in Oakville. Steven
Here are some clarifications about Sidna Nourse and family:
Sidna McDonald met Clifford when they both attended Ontario Agricultural College. Upon graduation they were involved with an experimental farm In Saskatchewan. Following an accident (I do not know the details) in which her husband was killed, Sidna returned to the old family home(4 Johnson st, Picton) with her two young sons from the marriage: Gordon and Alan. The boys attended Lakefield College while Sidna studied photography in New York for a year. When she returned to Picton she set up a studio in town. She did not remarry but lived with her maiden sister, Naomi McDonald (a dietician at the county hospital) in the old family home
It truly was a coincidence that the neighbours at 2 Johnson were the Nourses (pronounced "nurse" as opposed to Clifford's "Norse". As a child I was told many times that there was absolutely no relationship other than neighbours!
Dorothy Maher, (1918-2009) high school teacher and daughter of Picton pharmacist John Maher was Gordon's first wife and I, Nancy, am their only child. Lee was Gordon's second wife and they lived in the apartment at no6 Johnson.

Your mom is my mother's aunt, or my grand aunt. I have been trying very hard to solve your mom's connection. She was the one sibling that was 'adopted' by Eva.
My grandfather was William James Scott,he lived at Bedford Mills around that date. I know little about his family other than he had Rancier and Yateman in his famiily. He married Idella Green who was Native Canadian. They had 18 children, Samual, May, Nettie, Isabel, Loretta, Audrey, Eileen, Donald, Ronald, Earnie and Larry, I don't know the others as they died either at birth or shortly after. We have been looking for Grandpa's geneology also. I hope this helps.

Hi Ian. I have confirmed your info on Sidna Nourse, 1918-2009, from the Canada Voters Lists, 1935-1980. They show that she lived at 4 Johnson St with Gordon Beverly Nourse, 1917-1987, and that she was a photographer. Evidently he was her son tho’ I have no records to verify. The same Lists show Reginald Nourse and wife living next door at 4 Johnson St. I find it difficult to believe this was just a coincidence.

Clifford Bennett Nourse, Sidna’s husband, came to Canada from S. Africa in 1910 to study at the Ontario Agricultural College and stayed. The S. African Nourses are descended from Joseph Nourse, 1750-1802, a London wine and lace merchant. Perhaps your Reginald Nourse was descended from the Weston-under-Penyard, Herefordshire, Nourses and James Nourse who emigrated to the USA and died at Annapolis in 1784.

I also found from the 1963 Lists that there was a Dorothy Nourse (nee Maher), a teacher, living at the same address as Gordon Nourse. I don’t know whether she was his aunt or not directly related but she was born and died in exactly the same years as his mother Sidna. I also found from the Canadian Phone and Address Directories, 1995-2002, that there was a Gordon Nourse living at 6-D Johnson St in 1995, 1996 and 1997. I am left wondering who the husband of Dorothy Nourse was and where the 2nd Gordon Nourse fits in. Any ideas? Thanks. Steven
Hello Ruth, Elizabeth and Chantell,
I am a little late getting into this discussion on the Mcdonalds from The County. (Prince Edward County in Ontario). Recently I have been putting my wife's family history on ancestry. This includes the Mcdonald line on her mother's side of the family. Greer McDonald (who was married four times) was her great grandfather and her mother's grandfather. Francis Mcdonald is her gr gr grandfather and her mother's great grandfather. David Mcdonald from New Brunswick was his father and my wife's gr gr gr grandfather and her mother's (Lille Mae) Mcdonald's gr gr grandfather. She and her mother grew up in Prince Edward County. If you like, I would invite you to my family tree which includes ther Mcdonald family tree if you respond to this email on ancestry and invite me to your family tree as well. I may be able to fill in some blanks. Hoping to hear from you.
Ralph Smith
