Burial site for Lt. or Col. Henry YOUNG 1820
Found a picture of my ancestor's monument in the book "Athol", which I understood was located in the churchyard of Cherry Valley United Church. However, when my husband & I visited the cemetery a number of years ago, we were unable to find the burial site. As we will be visiting the county in Aug., would like to take a photo of the stone if anyone knows where it is located.
Also would like to photograph Lt. Henry YOUNG Jr's stone. He died in Kingston in 1812 but I believe is buried in the Glenwood Cemetery in Picton. We searched there on our last visit but it is such a large cemetery, that we were unsuccessful. Hoping to find his wife, Nancy DYRE YOUNG who died in 1837, at the same location.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: Burial site for Lt. or Col. Henry YOUNG 1820
Linda Smith, I hope you read this as I have been trying to e-mail you to thank you and your friend for your most helpful information but my e-mails keep getting bounced back. I realize that I should have been clearer about which ancestor is supposedly buried in the Cherry Valley Cemetery. He is Col. or Lt. Henry YOUNG [1736/7 - 1820] who was mar. to Marytje or Maria LISJER or FLETCHER. Their son, Lt. Henry YOUNG [1768 - 1812] mar. Nancy DYER or DYRE [1774 - 1837] & these two are buried in Glenwood Cem. Their son, George YOUNG [1800 -1821] mar. Mary [Polly] PLATT [1803-1860] & had just one child, my g.g.grandfather, Rev. George YOUNG [1821 - 1910]. He was brought up in the home of Thomas Bowerman, who mar. his mother, after the untimely death of his father. See "Manitoba Memories" by Rev. George YOUNG in which he gives a brief autobiography of his boyhood in Prince Edward County. There is a YOUNG Church {United] & a YOUNG ST. in Winnipeg, both named for our Rev. Dr. George YOUNG.
We visited The Marilyn Adams Centre in Ameliasburgh several years ago but only had a few hours. Hope to get back this trip.
Thanks again for the tips.

I am also researching families in Athol. I am curious about this book you referred to. Could you tell me the full name and author and publisher. Do you know where it would be available?

Re: Burial site for Lt. or Col. Henry YOUNG 1820
Hello Karen : The book is titled "Athol" Stories of a Township and its people during the past 132 years. Edited by Philip F. Dodds & published in Dec.1979. A project of Athol Township Senior Citizens' Activity Group. Supported by Health & Welfare Canada New Horizons Program. It was printed by Eastern Ontario Graphics. I don't see it listed under Abe's Books. Perhaps the folks at The Marilyn Adams Centre for genealogy research, in Ameliasburgh could help. http://www.quinte-kin.com/7th_town.htmThere is no index as such but I would be glad to do some lookups for you. I will check with my local library, perhaps they can get it for me. I don't live that far from Prince Edward County but it is difficult for me to travel there until spring. I am trying to find my ggggrandfather, William Henry Graham, or his wife, Patty Sweet. They had one son James Sweet Graham. I know they all lived in the Ameliasburg area at one time, but there are records that say "Athol".

Have reviewed the book, especially the chapters which describe the early settlers etc. & unfortunately have found no mention of Sweet or Graham. Noticed Grahams in a more recent census in Hillier Twp., P.E.C.

Art Hubbs e mail to: Stephenkentcomer@earthlink.net(my son in law) The monument for the YOUNG Family, Henry, Nancy DYRE et. al. is in Glenwood Cemetery, Picton. Prince Edward County Cemeteries transcribed by C. Loral Wanamaker. Glenwood Cemetery page 95 The Quinte Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society in Trenton Library has a map of the cemetery and grave locations by section. It would be a good idea to stop there and get the information. I have photos of the monument, but I can't locate them now.

Re: Burial site for Lt. or Col. Henry YOUNG 1820
Hello Art :
You were kind enough to send me a picture of the tombstone of Henry & Nancy [Dyer] Young, via snail mail, which, like you , I can't find at the moment. However, I took another photo, when we visited Glenwood Cemetery, several years ago & will scan & send to you & your son-in-law. As for the location of the stone : We were staying at a lovely B.&B. on the corner of West Mary St. & Ferguson St, Hadden-Holme Guest House & just a block to an entrance to Glenwood & if I recall correctly, the stone was located on the side of the hill, on the left, less than 100 yards from the gates & across the road from the chapel which was being restored. I hope, however vague, this is of some help & if I locate your photo before you do, I will scan that as well.
Best Regards Libby
