Has anyone done any DNA testing? My research is leading me to believe that I am related to Samuel Dainard and I am considering DNA testing to take this hypothesis further. Susan Inwood, Toronto

Its my understanding that a female dna test uses mitochondria and only proofs your maternal line. (Maternal mitochondria dna is handed down unchanged from mother to daughter etc). To do Y-dna testing to attach yourself to a male ancestor such as Samuel you will need a son or brother of yours to be tested against another proven male descendant of this Samuel DAINARD.- Mary

Just thought I'd clarify the male being tested needs to be a DAINARD. I see your surname is Inwood so your son will have INWOOD y-chromasome dna. If your maiden name was DAINARD then your brothers would be the ones tested against another proven male descendant of Samuel.- Mary

Thanks, I was fairly sure that it would have to be a male relative but even then I might be wrong.
I believe that my maternal GGM was a Dainard. She had a son, he had only daughters, then my mother and her brothers, then my generation of males and females. Perhaps this cannot be done.
But I was asking if any Dainard had done testing - so I would know if there was something to compare to.

I used to live in Prince Edward County and had a friend named Bonnie Richardson and her and her sister Giselle lived with Bruce and (Betty?) Dainard at RR 8 Picton Ontario. That would have been early 60's.

Thanks Arlene. I have been able to locate a few Dainards who are still in the County. Susan

I am not a Dainard, but I know they intermarried with my Ferguson clan quite a bit. I have several DNA matches that are descended from those couples.
