So very nice to hear from you. Which line of the Van Vlack's are you connected to.
My John A. Van VLack's with Frist Wife unknown children were:
James Elias Van Vlack (married Cornelia Daville)
I believe that a Johan Mary Van VLack was also his child that shows up in the 1850 Census living with George Houck who would have been the brother of Madeline Houck who was John A. Van Vlack's second wife (marriage date Feb. 18, 1839) The only information I was able to obtain is limited to this 1850 Census) The 1830 Census in Rose, Wayne County New York shows John A. with two sons and three daughters. According to the obit of Mary Ann Van Vlack she came to Canada as a young child with her parents. Which indicates that John A's first wife would have died in Canada. I have found nothing on her.
John Barrett Van VLack (married 2nd Janet Currie)
Elizabeth Melvina Van VLack (married Samuel Speight)
Mary Ann Van VLack (married Thomas Wilds) Mary Ann's first child Elizabeth was born out of wedlock due to a rape she experienced. I have the news article where John A. Van Vlack sued the father and won the lawsuit.)
Children with Madeline Houck
Clara Jane Van VLack (married Warren Tobey)
Madeline Van Vlack (married
Darwin Lewis Van VLack (married Mary Sykes)
My James Elias Van Vlack's first child was John Henry Van Vlack, the name John Henry is also in the Henry Van Vlack/Catherine Palen line. The name Elias is also in this line. There are others as well which I find kind of ironic. Also, Elizabeth is a very strong name in my direct family which to me indicates a possibility that John A.'s mother could have been named Elizabeth as would his first wife's name.
I would love nothing more then to connect my family to the other Van Vlacks. Barbara Van Vlack and I worked for many years together on research. Which line of the Van Vlack's are you with.
I found evidence that Henry Van Vlack who married Catherine Palen fought in the war of 1812 and have a copy of a land grand that was given to him due to his involvement in this war. Making my Henry Van Vlack married to Polly Van Tyne not the Henry who fought in the war of 1812 because he would have passed. There was an article written by someone stating that there is a mix up on the two Henry's which I believe has a lot of credibility. I know that Polly Van Tyne would have remarried a Richard Mott and have tried to follow this line to see if I can connect my John A. Van Vlack but have been unsuccessful.
I do know that Van Vlack was the only spelling of the name and have never seen it spelt Van Vleck. Barbara Van Vlack and I did research for many years together and it was also her belief that my John A. Van Vlack was connected to the John A. Van Vlack line who married second Maria Teneyck.
I am probably sounding more confusing as ever so sorry for that.
My email is

Take care for now
