Hi Lanny

Dorus Brooks married 3x that I could find. He married Jane as you know.

He then married an Anne Whiteman on the 9th Sep 1883 in Napanee, Lennox & Addington Co., Ontario, Canada

And then he Deborah McGrath in 20 Aug 1891 in Adolphustown, Lennox & Addington Co.,

I do not know if he and Anne Whiteman had children but if they did they should appear on the 1891 Canadian Census prior to him marrying Deborah?

As Janice indicated, I too am certain Doras was the son of George Brooks and Charlotte Benedict. And he had a younger brother Willet Brooks.

George & Charlotte married in 1821 in Fredericksburg and it would appear Charlotte died by 1841 when George went on to marry Mary Street in Picton in 1841 and went on to have more children with her.

However given George and Charlotte were together for quite possibly 19 years, but at least 13 years, before her death, there was room for them to have many children... at this point I have only come up with Dorus and Willet but really believe there could have been more!

For Doras Brooks & Jane, it would seem they had 3 children you did not mention so I am assuming they died? 1851 Census has the following 3 children : a Charlotte abt 1847, Wellington 1846 and Doras 1850.

Melissa was my great grand mother. Julius later married Louisa Jane Robertson who had eight more children.

All the people you mention are direct relatives of mine.

Melissa Robertson was my great great aunt, my grandmother was named after her. Louisa Robertson was the 2nd wife of Julius. His first wife was Louisa's sister Melissa. (Sounds like a modern day soap opera!) Louisa & Willet had a large family in the Alpena, Mi area! My grand mother, Melissa was the eldest in the family.

Melissa & Louisa Ribertson's father died when the girls were young. Phil (Willam) was very kind to the girls as he raised them.
Melissa Brooks Smith died at 35 leaving 7 children.

Melissa did indeed marry Willett, he divorced her and he married her sister Louisa. They had a ten children together. Louisa was married to Henry Huff before she married Willett. Louisa & Henry had Melissa. Melissa married an Adam Catalin in MI. They had 3 children and she lived to be 91. Louisa and she kept in touch over the years.

Sounds like a soap opera!! Had been sick and have not done much with genealogy until now.
I got my second wind!

Have a nice day!

Louisa's daughter Mellissa was my grandmother. Louisa sister was Melissa. My grandmother was named after her. Melissa Robertson Catlin lived to be 91 and was married to Adam Catlin in Flint, MI

Louisa was my great grandmother. After leaving Henry Huff she married Willet Brooks. They had a large family. There eldest daughter married Thomas Smith and had about 7 children until she died of typhoid fever in 1896. Presently my genealogical program is being fixed. I have a new computer that things are being down loaded etc., or I could be more specific. There are only about 4 or 5 of Melissa grandchildren alive. I am the youngest of them.

I hope that this brings clarification for you. The whole thing sounds like a soap opera!! lol Wow!
Much was happening in those days as well!!!

Bob I am interested in your relationship to Willet Brooks. I am confused a little as I have his parents as George Brooks and Charlotte Benedict.

I have George remarried to Mary (Morey) Street on July 12th 1841 after Charlotte (Lottie) Death.

You have listed Willet's parents as George William and Caroline Kersey. Is it possible we are talking about 2 different Willet's??
