Dear movaliq. You may be able to help with a little dilemma I've had since I began researching my grandmother's family a couple of years ago. She was the daughter of Robert Newton and Ellen/Ellenor Kinscella. I've lived a life mostly sheltered from religious and racial persecution....so it's hard for me to understand why such things would affect people the way they do. So when I saw the name of Kinsella in my family I thought that we finally had a Catholic in the family....but on her headstone they spelled it Kinscella with a 'c' added....so i became confused. Are there other Kinscella families abroad or did my family add the 'c' to distance themselves from the Kinsella's without the 'c'???? I volunteer at the local genealogy centre and found a person of knowledge who thought that one possibility was that love trumps all...and maybe the two found a way to marriage regardless of religion. Do you think my Kinscella's may have been Catholic at one point? Sorry to throw such an strange question your way. I hoping for a bit of a love story on my 'tree'.

Kinsella name: They mostly came from Ireland. Either Protestants or Catholics.

I have found a site on the Kinsella name. Please follow the link below:

Let me know if this helps you.

the Ottaw pulbic library will not lend the book out...in library use only. but the From Swamp to Shanty book can be purchased on Amazon for the rediculous price of $710....yes $710. i guess i won't be getting a copy after all. do you have a copy? can you do a lookup for me to see if the Newtons or Kinsella/Kinscellas are mentioned?

Local Families’ Surname Index

Family Files

This Local Families’ Index lists the names of individuals and families for whom some information has been collected at the Keith Boyd Museum. While many other individuals or families have contributed to the heritage of Russell Village, the museum may not yet have collected or catalogued information concerning them.

The Local Families’ Index contains the names of families for whom a family file exists at the museum or those who were profiled in Wendell M. Stanley’s 1987 publication, From Swamp and Shanty. These families have lived, worked or been commercially involved in the Village of Russell or the surrounding area. Family files at the Museum vary in content; some include genealogies and/or photographs, while others, only newspaper clippings such as death and birth notices, or wedding articles.

Please note that heritage information exists at the museum that has not been cross indexed, such as sports groups, graduating classes etc., but may however provide some knowledge of families other than those listed in this index.

Volunteers at the Keith M. Boyd Museum will gratefully accept donated artifacts, documents or photos of heritage value.
