I am researching my husband's Murray family and am trying to find a James Murray who lived in the Kinkora, Perth area and had a son Timothy (whose nickname was Taid). I am assuming James was born about 1830 in Ireland - Timothy (I believe) was born about 1850 in Ireland. According to family information Timothy had a large family and lived the Perth area.

I have additional information on James' brother John, who also came to the Perth area. Thanks for any information anyone might have on this or the extended family.

"In 1867, Timothy Murray (born 1844) of Lot 35, Concession 8 married Grace Stock. For their first couple of years of marriage they lived in Logan Township, where the first of their 12 children, Ellen was born.
In 1869 they bought this lot, where they lived and worked until their deaths.
Timothy became a township councillor in 1873, and was deputy reeve in 1878. He died in 1918.
In later years, Grace could often be found rocking and knitting in her favourite chair. She was an industrious lady, who undoubtedly believed that idle hands were the devil's workshop. As she chatted with friends and family members, she would continue to work on a knitting project.
She was also known to be opinionated and had no qualms about expressing her views on any issue of the day. To emphasize a point, she vehemently tapped the arm of her rocker with a knitting needle until she felt her point had been acknowledged. One family member noted upon her death in 1939, that she had worn a hole in the arm of her rocker, and that that was a reminder to those who remained to watch their p's and q's.
Timothy F. (born 1889) was the second youngest of the Murrays' dozen children. He took over the farm the year after his father's death.
In 1917 he married Ellen Reidy of Logan Township. They had two children, Joe and Mary Grace, neither of whom married.
In 1950, Timothy added Lot 30, next door.
After Ellen's death in 1960, Timothy and Joe continued to run the farm. In 1964, Joe took ownership of this farm, and in 1967 he was deeded Lot 30. In 1974, he sold both properties and moved to Stratford with Mary Grace.
Timothy F. also lived in Stratford, until his death in 1976.
Mary Grace worked at the post office in Stratford. She died in 1993."

Thank you for all three of these messages. I did see Timothy on the census records; however, I did not have the information provided in the historical document. This Timothy is definitely in the right age range and it looks like his father was a James - which I am looking for. Now, I just need to tie James to my John Murray (as brothers) - and I'm good!! Also, if this Timothy was found to be called "Taid" somewhere along the line that might tie him to my family as well.

Thanks so much for all the work the three of you did - it is much appreciated and very helpful.

One more bit of information that ties Timothy to James.

"James and Mary (Sweeney) Murray came to Canada from Ireland in 1850 with their son Timothy, who had been born at Bandon in County Cork in 1844.
They settled for a while in the Toronto area before moving to this lot. (Lot 35, Concession 8, Ellice Township)
Their other four children, James Jr, Michael, John and Ellen were born in Canada.
Timothy married Grace Stock in 1867, and two years later they bought Lot 29, Concession 9."

This text is from page 356 of Echoes of Ellice.

I looked for information that might connect James and John but there is nothing obvious. There are a multitude of references to Murrays in the history book and I cannot begin to sort them out. You might want to consider borrowing the book on interlibrary loan. There is a copy in the library at the Family History Centre in Salt Lake City.

GG,

Thanks so much for this additional information. I will try and get this book on interlibrary loan - the Salt Lake Library doesn't participate in that - one has to view their books at the library in Salt lake which is unfortunate. Tried finding it online; however, I was not successful. Will also try the Stratford Archives as a source online said it may be available there, so will call them tomorrow.

Thank you again - you have been a great help.

My family also has a bunch of Timothy's and we think other branches settled in Canada. Do you know the parish of origin in Ireland? I don't know where mine came from, but it was likely somewhere in County Tipperary.
