My parents both grew up in the old CIL village in Nobel, Ontario during the 40s and left the village after DIL and CIL downsized. My Mom's family was Cummings (Lornie and Georgina) and her name was Lorna; she had siblings: Geraldine, Floyd, Ross, Webb, Bees, Butch, Rita and Ken. My Dad's family was Lawson (Charlie and Vera) and his name was Reg; he had siblings: Lloyd, Meryl, Keith, Gail, Lorraine, Lois, Betty and Ron.
The Lawsons were from Parry Sound and moved to Sudbury in the late 30s so Grandpa could work in the mines as there was no work in Parry Sound. When DIL started their hiring boom in the early 40s, Grandpa was hired and he moved his family back to the CIL village and their house was on Silverbirch.
The Cummings were from Sturgeon Falls and they moved to Nobel in the early 1940 when DIL started their hiring boom and Grandpa was hired. When they first moved to Nobel, they lived on Glenrock which is in the Crawford Subdivision. They later moved up to one of the bigger war time houses on Hillsdale in the CIL village.
When production slowed and stopped at DIL and CIL, the houses were moved to other towns and the Lawson and Cummings family moved from the village.
