His son Thomas built the King George Hotel and another son Angus Alexander also farmed
in the Monteith Township. Angus was married to Jane Royston who later claimed her name to be Mary Jane Elliott. They had James, Isabella, Angus, John, Thomas, Hugh, Mary Jane, Pearl and Norman.

I have searched all records available to us on ancestry and have also searched on the Monteith Township land Claims microfilm, where I had hoped to find his Land Petitition Application, however there was no claim made by him for land, however he did sign 3 of the forms of others to verify that they were who they said they were. He settled on Lot 30 Con 11 in the Monteith township of the Parry Sound Ontario district, then married Jane Royston 17 Nov 1873 in Sprucedale. We have never been able to find the marriage registration. On the census information it says he was born in Ontario, but the death certificate states he was born in 1821 in Glengarry and half of the family say he came from Isle of Skye Scotland (was a fisherman there) and the other half believe he was born in Ontario. We are unable to find him on an 1871 Canada Census, but is in the 1881 Census with his wife and family. In the 1901 Census he is not listed on the census with his wife and his wife is listed as head of the family. In the 1911 he is with his wife and family, then he died in 1917. His death certificate lists his parents as Dougald and Elizabeth (nee Winnely) but we have never been able to find a link to his parents in Canada or in Scotland. The censuses do not have his age correct in any of them. Thank You

Registrations from the north often didn't make it to Toronto. The recorder only came through once or twice a year and some records were likely lost and some just never registered. Church records may be one source. Census says they were Church of England. Try the Algoma Diocese for records.
1881 gives his age as 40, born 1841 Ontario
1891 gives age as 49, born 1842, Ontario. Father b Ontario, mother b Scotland.
1911 gives age as 80, born 1831 Ontario.

There is a death rego in 22 Feb 1923 in Monteith for a Mary Jane McKinnon, widow, b England but parents are given as John and Mary Jane Elliott. She was murdered along with another lady named Pearl Victoria Stephenson whose parents are given as Angus McKinnon b Glengarry and Mary Jane Elliott b England. Informant on both registrations is Thomas McKinnon of Seguin Falls. They are both buried at Dufferin Bridge, same place as Angus. I didn't find any headstones for them.
Elliott is a Sprucedale name. They are on 1871 census in Sprucedale - John 45, Mary 43, Jane 15, Thomas 10 and John 8.
On Thomas McKinnon's marriage rego his parents are given as Angus McKinnon and Jane Elliott.
On Pearl's marriage rego, mother's name is given as Mary Jane Roystone Elliott.
What happened? Who shot them both?
Re Angus' different ages and dates of birth. Maybe he lied about it as he was so much older than Jane?
This doesn't help you one iota with Angus but I got interested in the family history.
1871 census has many Angus McKinnon in Glengarry.
