Hay & Gibbs families of Parry Sound area.
Am searching for a branch of my Hay family that settled in the area of Parry Sound-Muskoka in the late 1870's. I have found them on the 1881 census with a large family of children although I am having difficulty tracing any of these children. One son, William Hay married and lived in the North Bay area and one daughter, Betsy married a Gibbs and remained in the Sprucedale area. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Leigh....

Re: Hay & Gibbs families of Parry Sound area.
My grandmother gave me the name George GIBBS and said he was from the Bracebridge area and had came from England. I know he was married to a Margaret/Bessie/Betsie/Elizabeth - (not sure the name she would've been known by so my grandmother gave names she knows were either full or short forms for her) - HAY (i heard Hayes, but I'm now thinking my grandmother just meant the Hay name pluralized, which would be Hays), and they had several children. My great grandmother was Ina, and I also have the names Reginald, William, Bessie and Jack. My grandmother is the daughter of Ina. My grandmother said they didn't hear a lot about their family, and came up with the names I've listed, and they would have been her aunts and uncles.
My grandmother was born in Sprucedale to Ina Reid (nee HAY). Do you think we could be searching for similar family history/ancestry?

Re: Hay & Gibbs families of Parry Sound area.
Hi Timothy555
Your great grandmother Ina Reid Is my Aunt. . Ina is my father's sister. His name is Charlie (my mother) is Ivy Gibbs.
Your grandmother is my first cousin! Is your grandmother from Ina's marriage to Billy Reid or John O'Holloran? If Billy Reid is her father your grandmother must be Violet, and Violet has a daughter named Beverly. Aunt Ina's children from her marriage with John O'Halloran I do not know. I meet them for the first time that I can remember was at Aunt Ina funeral and have not seen them since. Except "Doll" (Ina's daughter from her first marriage) she lived and buried in the same Town that I live in. Also Edna Burns I have met her a few times (deceased I believe and buried in Sprucedale.
I have the old family bible. George and Bessie Gibbs bible.
Some of the dates of Births listed in the family do not agree with what is in the bible George born May 8, 1855 Bessie Dec 14, 1866 ( I was born on Dec 14,1940) Ina Jan 31 st 1891 Florence Jan 5 1895 Bessie Jan 25th 1898 Hector May 23 1912 (Hector was Florence's son but adopted by Grandma Gibbs and raised as her son)
Once a year or any time that I am in Sprucedale I visit My Grandparents Grave (George and Bessie Gibbs) also buried there with them is Florence (Babe) and her husband Johnnie.Woods Also I go out to the old pioneer cemetery and visit my great grandparents grave (Alexander and Anne Hay) I also go to visit Aunt Ina and Uncle Billie Reid's grave in Huntsville. Although their graves are not marked to my knowledge but I have an idea where they are buried from attenting Aunt Ina's funeral.
I hope this helps. If you would like any further information send a note.
