Were your COOKE's from England? I have two Ebenezers- one born 1837 in Norfolk England and died in Middlesex Co. 1923 son of Mordecai COOKE of Botanical fame and Mary CUBITT. Ebenezer had a son Arthur Ebenezer born St. Pancras, Middlesex and died 1959 in London England.

We have several Ebenezer Cook/e men. Stephen and Susannah's children where born in York County, and there are several more there. I am having a difficult time figuring out who is who.
Also Cook name is also found as Cooke with verified information, that it is, the same family. An example of this is found on the Release of Dower Stephen uses Cooke and underneath Susannah is Cook.

According to a tree on line, Stephen's father was Ebenezer - no mother given and Susannah's surname was Reider b.1804 d- same as on tombstone and they had 10 Children. Perhaps you already have this info.
Ebenezer b.1757 in Pennsylvania d 1852 in Whitchurch Twp. York Co. ON.
York Directory has an Ebenezer Cook at Lot 29 Con 6 Whitchurch Twp.
There is an Ebenezer Cook in Oxford in 1824. It looks like there may have been two Ebenezers around that time.
Hope I haven't confused the issue here.

I am researching my Uncle's family tree. He is Walter Peter Fenner, the son of Walter James Fenner (1895-1975) & Ellen (Nellie) Chilvers (1895-1987).
Ellen had a sister Alice May Chilvers (1893-1957) who was sent to Canada in 1904 under a Dr Barnardos scheme. She married Rowland Sidney Harrison (1879-1931) in 1909 in Oxford Ontario. They had at least 7 children possibly more.
Myrtle (1910-2003), Gertrude (1911-1973), Jessie (1913-1996), David (1914-1993), Roland (1916-1992), Gordon (1920-2002) and Richard (1932-2010).
According to the information I have all the children were born in the Norwich, Oxford area of Ontario.
My Uncle would love to know more about the family and whether there are any living relatives who can fill in the gaps in our tree.
Sheila

I am attempting to link up the Woodstock Gurnetts (children or grandchildren of Gabriel) to a Gurnett who kept a hotel in Holbrook in 1863 (according to an election nomination article). By 1894 Gurnetts were selling liquor and wine in Woodstock (William F). I have lots on John Sawyers Gurnett who bought the Chronicle from Josiah Blackburn but nothing on any of the other Gurnetts. Any hotel connection would be helpful.

We have William Masters and Jane Pratt Ross in our family. They married in 1876 and had four children: Elizabeth (1877), Mary Jane (1879), William (1881, m. Emma Webber Burton), and John (1883, m. Robina McDonald Murray). These Masters are not buried in N. Embro Cemetery. Do you think this family is part of yours? Will share more info if you do.
Regards, Diane Geddes

Hi I have been searching around and found that Jane Pratt Ross and Willam Masters were my great, grandparents..MY grandfather was Wesley one of their kids. I always knew he came from a big family but 14 wow. I was raised until age 5 in the family business in Embro owned by my grandfather . I believe the building still stands. I do not know what my Great Grandfather did but I found these records under Chester Masters my Grandfathers younger brother who someone had found a first world war record on. My name Lorna comes from the son of William and Jane who my Father was named after...Lawrence.
You can find there records in Embro cemetary,

Hi My Maiden name is Masters. My grandfather was Wesley Masters of Embro and is buried in the Embro cemetary. He had a shoemaker and harness shop there. I know he came from a large family. I believe my cousin William Masters an older man in my childhood was from that family. William must be a family name as my brothers uncle was also called that. I have found an older family photo with the John Masters family reunion written on it. My father once showed me the war metal he had been given that came from the family member who is buried in the ( Lawrence ) Embro cemetary. I am trying to find out more about my grandfathers family..

Yes, you are correct, Alice Fortier married Adam Flores in Rumford, Maine. Not sure the official date and year. Adam lived in Rumford in 1917. File Attached. I guess Adam meet Alice in Rumford and married a few years later. I have not found any children born "Alice/Adam Flores" to date. The 1930/1940 Census list the two of them only.

Appreciated the help you provided.

Robert F

Then an Edwin Underwood, son of John Underwood and Maria McLees. Edwin marries Mary Jane Case- born ~1830 somewhere in the US. Any information would be appreciated.

I am searching for the father of Edwin Underwood b. ~1826- who might be a relative of your Underwoods. He was living in Oxford Co. Ontario- where there are also McLees from Dutchess Co. NY. There is quite a group that comes up to Oxford Co. following the War of 1812. Many were Quakers. Seems that the biggest Quaker settlement after Newmarket, ON, just north of Toronto,is the one at Norwich, Oxford Co. ON.

If you can connect the siblings to the parents then, we can go with that. What ever you have would be helpful.

Interesting about the burning of York. Do you have more on that? I know that my friend and her family will be interested in knowing about that!

You and my friend, Michele are obviously related through Barbara.

Sadly, I just looked through my files and I can't find a direct connection between Barbara Utley Lewis with Samuel Utley and Elizabeth French(or Finch). Both Barbara's marriage record and death record make no mention of her parents. I got this information from stuff I found on Barbara's siblings. A biography of her brother John Utley mentions the names Samuel Utley of Connecticut and Elizabeth Finch of Vermont as his parents. I also found similar mentions for siblings Reuben Utley and Annis Utley. Annis is living with Barbara Lewis in 1861. So even though I'm 100% sure of the connection through what I've found on her siblings, I can't find any records about Barbara that states that her parents are Samuel and Elizabeth Utley. All of these Utley's settled in Whitchurch Ontario where Barbara was born. I have mention of Samuel Utley being accused of treason there in 1813 when the American's burned York. I do have lots of other info on the family if you are interested, though I've never been able to find what happened to Samuel and Elizabeth Utley. The whole family seems to have moved to Brant County, then later generations moved to Michigan.

She was using "Alice" as her name according to the 1900 US Census. Her father was Joseph Fortier and Mom was Odile Turgeon.
John Barnett is also my Great Great Grandfather. Has anybody been able to find any new information as to his actual birthdate or place of birth? His gravestone lists his birthyear as 1846, but as previously mentioned, there are conflicting documents (ie -the certificate of registration of death lists his birthdate as July 27 1845.

West Zorra Baptist Cemetery - Abandoned

West Zorra Baptist Cemetery - Abandoned

I am finding a few entries for the Hallock family in this cemetery in the OFCA database, here:

http://ocfa.islandnet.com/ocfa-search.php?page=1&surname...

. Just what does "abandoned" mean? Have the remains and stones be re-interred somewhere else?

Or, just that access is not available?

Or, it's not being maintained?

Is there a listing of burials on-line anywhere that would show info on the stone, especially dates.

Thanks for your support.

Searching for information on Lahey's from Ingersoll

I'm searching for information on Patrick Lahey (from Tipperary), known to be from the Ingersoll area. Patrick married Martha Swift (unknown if this was in Ontario or Tipperary).

Among their children, Patrick and Martha had 3 boys, Micheal, Patrick Jr, and John. Patrick Jr. was born in Quebec. Each of those sons had a son named Micheal, one of whom is my great grandfather.

I know that the Lahey's belonged to the Sacred Heart RC church in Ingersoll, Oxford, Ontario.

Any info and/or contacts that might shed a light on this would be GREATLY appreciated!
