I have a Charles Wilson who had a son "Foster" Wilson. Don't know if it is the same that moved to Ottawa, Foster b. Mar 10, 1849, in Ontario, died Aug 31, 1923 in Ingersoll, Ont. Father Charles was born in England.

Thanks for the info. It is strange that there would be another Foster Wilson son of a Charles in the same area. Wonder if there is a family connection? The dates of your Foster Wilson are different. My Grandfather was William Foster Wilson, b 1874 in Woddstock, died 1940 in Ottawa. Charles, his father was apparently warden of the jail in Woodstock and lived in a house next door to the jail. But I know that his family was once from Ingersoll and I remember my mother talking about them being in the cheese business. I dont know what country he was from originally.

I found the newspaper entry for the birth of a son to a Charles Wilson as follows:

Wilson, Charles, and Wilson, (boy), (Born on 8 Jun 1874) Birth appeared in Woodstock Weekly Review, 12 Jun 1874, page 8, column 2

This is only the index of the notice. Have you tried to find your Charles in the 1881 Canadian Census? It is available from www.Familysearch.org and is searchable. If you find a link check on household and it will give you the complete list household members.
Let me know if you find them.

Hi Debbie; Thanks for the info. It is indeed my William and Charles. The dates are exact for his birth. I looked up the 1881 cencus on Family Search and found the entry for the family of Charles Wilson. Everything looks right, age of William is right, only difficulty is Charles' wife according to the census is Elizabeth, and I had been told it was Annie Robinson. Curiously there is a Jessie Robinson who lives with them - ( a sister?) and there is a child named Annie. So perhaps there is an explanation that I will never be able to tap into. I do appreciate your tip - it has led me to investiage other family ancestors through the sam channel! Elizabeth Morley

Hi,
I have just come across this message thread and wondering if anyone is still watching it? I can shed some light on this topic if still interested. The Charles Wilson you mention was the son of William Foster Wilson, who was a Tanner in Woodstock. William was born in 1818 in Yorkshire, son of Richard Wilson and Sarah Foster. Family came to Canada in 1831. Settled and farmed near Ingersoll. Let me know if you need more info!
