Scott brothers Charles and John, Whitby, 1851

Classification: Query
Surnames: Scott, Chartrand, Bates, Frost, Marshall,
Looking for any descendants of these two brothers, or information about them. Are the 1861 and 1871 Canadian census online anywhere?

1851 census, Whitby

Scott, Charles, 36, shoemaker
Mary, 35
Stanley, 12
Echabod J, 11, believe this is Jerome
Mary A, 9
Charles, 7
Frances, 5

John, 33, shoemaker
Susan, 34
Amelia, 10
John, 8
George J, 7, went by Joseph and Joe
Sarah E, 6
Stanley, 3
Margaret, 2

John Scott and Susan Chartrand married at Coteau-du-Lac, St Ignace parish, moved to Whitby where several children were born. Son Joe Scott moved to Simcoe area and married Lucinda Davis. He later moved to Michigan. We have information on this line we will share.

The children of Charles and Mary seem to have mostly remained in the Whitby area. Online Canadian records give Charles Scott, d. March 1885; Jerome Scott d. Jan 1917 and burial in Union Cemetery, with parents given as Charles Scott and Mary, and wife as Elizabeth Bates; Mary Ellen Scott age 30, parents Charles and Mary, married Edward Frost, age 26, in 1873 at Whitby; Frances Ann Scott, d/o Charles and Mary Scott, m. William Marshall at Whitby in 1873.

Does any of this sounds familiar? Would also consider research for hire on this family.

A good source of information which I have not seen mentioned yet is Brian Winter, the Town of Whitby archivist. He has gone through old newspapers and has files on old Whitby families. His email is bwinter@whitbylibrary.on.ca. The telephone number is 905-668-6531 ext. 2022
