I tried to email you direct but this address is invalid.
Here's my message:
Hi Jen,
Perhaps we can help each other out in our search for our Metis connection via the Paquette name. My oral family history ties to my grgrgrandmother Louise Marie Paquette born 1856 in Ontario. Her adopted mother was Matilda Paquette and her parents John and Josie Paquette. I don't have a tribe name to associate the story with; it seems everyone wanted to keep this info undercover.
That's all I know, so I've been searching online.
Here's what I found recently:
http://www.acvnet.org/ne-do-ba is a web site for the Abenaki tribe. They have a short Paquette listing under Odanek Families, St. Francois-du-Las, Yamaska County, Quebec. I've sent an inquiry email to the web master asking if they have more detail.
Tonight I found:
Census records for East Sandwich Township, Essex County, Ontario for 1881. I looked in Ontario because that's the birth place for my gggrandmother. Haven't found any relatives that I can associate yet, but perhaps this will help you.
http://user.rootsweb.com/~ongenpro/census/transcripts/Essex-...Listed are:
Marguerite Paquette, f 72, catholic, French. Her birth year be 1809. She's living with her daughter Maguerite Chartier who is 29, so born 1852. (pages 23-44)
Also, Antoine Paquette m, 27 catholic, irish, farmer. Married to Marie, age 28. Children: Henrie m 8, Zoe f 6, Josephine f 4, Others: Archange f 65, Lenore f 36 and someone named Victoire Duroche f 16. (pages 89-109)
How did you get the info about being related to a Marguerite Paquette born in 1787 and how did the Cree tribe? Oral family history? I guess next I need to see what records that Quebec has online to see if that is a better match for me. Names tend to get passed down throughout families, so this might be a good Marguerite lead for you.
Sincerely,
Clare
