Noreen,
I'd be happy to share the records on the Chases with you. If you contact me by e-mail (a.dodd@telus.net) and give me your address, I could send them to you by post. I don't have a scanner.
I'm so glad Alan found you and will be very happy to share more about my family as I learn more.
Your cuz,
Arlena

Cuz,

Thanks a bunch. <G>

My badly-in-need-of-updating website has a lot of what I have on the RAMSEYs, but I keep finding new cuzzins with more new info, and I'm lazy about the update. <G>.

Right-click this link and open site in a new window.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~epworth/

You'll find my vital stats there as well. LOL!

Will also send you invite to our Private "MyFamily.com" site...you'll need the info in the invite, to log in the first time, and meet lots more cuzzins. <G>

Luv 'n Hugs
Noreen

Hi all! I had a fascinating couple of days in the Marsh Hill and surrounding area, discovering where the Chases lived and meeting a local genealogist who help[ed me find a number of graves as well as showing me where some fo the Allen's lived. I know have lots of pics. But on many questions I am even more confused, since searches of archive records of births and marriagesand deaths produced very little new information. I was rereading your message, Noreen, and see that you have John Thomas Chase married to Eliza Longfield about 1887. Can you tell me the source for that information? I also see you once asked me if I could send you a copy of our Chase information, and I don't know if I ever did that. I can certainly email you a .pdf or .rtf copy of what I have, or a .ged if you prefer. I have amended my data a little based on what I learned while there, and am convinced that Barbara was a Moon, not a Moore, since that name is quite clear on her gravestone as well as a couple of marriage records (though it looks like Moon on at least one of them). I can still find no record of a Robert Chase in Reach Township.

Alan, glad you enjoyed our little neck of the woods. Interestingly, I was working with a fellow researcher from Bruce County whose grandfather, Jacob Siegrist married Emma Moon from Reach, and move back to Wiarton, but in later years, come back to Reach.

Interesting - I noticed a number of family names poiing up in both places, but I guess that's to be expected. The names Acton and Watson both show up in Reach and have been two very prominant families in my wife's home community here, and there were Watson's in Bruce or Gray County as well - have been wondering if there might be a connection. I know from Uxbridge newspaper reports that a number of families from the Marsh Hill area came to Saskatchewan - they had some "reunions" that got reported. I have to look up some of the community names where they settled as they are not familiar to me. I hope to get back that way again some day. It is very pretty country and there is lots I didn't see. My next tack is probably to see if there are church records from the Marsh Hill Methodist Church that are accessible. I suspect they will be in the Toronto United Church Archives if they exist? I may have to find someone to search, as I doubt I can have them brought out this way and it's unlikely they've been microfilmed since our church made a decision a few years ago not to make such records available to the Mormons for microfilming.

Hi: I am starting to trace my wife's family. Her great grandfather was Charles Howsam 1868-?). He was raised on a farm north of Greenbank which is only a few miles east of Uxbridge, Ont. He had brothers with the names of Walter, George and Sam. According to my 94 yr old father-in-law, Charles had brothers who went out west, but they left long before he came to the area in 1928. Charles Howsam and his wife emigrated to Chicago and raised a family but never returned to live in Canada. My wife's grandmother (Florence Howsam) came up in the summers and eventually married James Mitchell whose family came to the area around 1860.

I have had little luck tracing the Howsams. There was a John Howsam there who I originally thought was the father of the Millicent Howsam that my wife's ancestor married, but she married someone else. I now believe our Millicent may have been the daughter of a Robert Howsam who was a cheesemaker there in the 81 census. I see there was a George Howsam there at that time, 23 years old, whose wife's name was Ursala - both were born in Ontario. There was a Robert and Susan Howsam in the 1861 census, 29 years old - they had a George who was 4 at the time. and is probably the same George. The online 81 census says that George was born in 1858. There are still Howsams in the Reach area but I have not made contact with them. I have not found a Charles or a Florence (did find a Fanny though). I was there last summer so have an idea of the landscape and locaion of places in the area.

Hi Bev: my wife is Gaile and we both come from the Oshawa, Ont area. My Grandfather Joseph Brockman came to Oshawa around 1880 from around Auburn NY (family lore) and he and his family had immigrated there from Germany around 1850. My father Leo Brockman had brothers named Joseph, Frank, Ezra (or Christopher), and Charlie and 1 sister Norma (married name Coffey). When my grandmother died in 1932, there was a family fight over the estate and I don't think my father talked to them again. When he died in 1946, I was 5 and I never met his side. So - are we related?? Bob B.
