I am trying to locate information about ancestors of my great-grandmother, Lois Smith who was born in Whitby Ontario Canada 4 Oct c1833, 1834, 1835. Her parents names were John Benjamin Smith and Jane Young. Lois had siblings named George, William, James, Cynthia, and Emaline (Emaline was born after the family migrated to the United States c1838-1839. The entire family, with the exception of Lois, died of cholera in the United States soon after their migration. John Benjamin Smith and Jane Young may have married in Whitby. I am primarily looking for the names of the parents of John Benjamin Smith and Jane Young, with my strongest leads being as follows: John Benjamin Smith's youngest brother was named Abram Smith, b c1808, d cl889-1991. He died in Whitby or Oshawa Ontario Canada. Abram was married twice and had 11 children by each wife, his second wife's name being Caroline Sowers, who b c1822, d cApril 1910. John Benjamin and Abram Smith had a first cousin by the name of Asa McGann (McGahon, McGahen) who married Sarah Ann Seelye (Seeley) in 1832. Sarah was b 27 Aug 1817 in Pickering Ontario and died 3 Mar 1887. Asa and Sarah's children were, Child McGann,
Rachel, b 23 Jan 1840, Thomas b 18 May 1842, and Wellington b 06 Dec 1845. If you can help me with any info on my ancestors, I would be greatful. The search for them has been going on for 3 or 4 family generations. Thanking you in advance for any help you can give, my name is LaVerne Brown and my E-mail address is: sina@cyberhighway.net.

Maybe you already have this information, but Rachel Smith married John Mc Gahen in 1788 in Whitby, Ont. Rachel's father was Henry Smith, and mother was Elizabeth Griffen I imagine her brother was the Smith you are related to, because one of her children was the Asa McGahen you refer to that was married to Sarah Ann Seeley. Asa was born in 1790 inWhitby. He married in 1817 i Nauvoo, Hancock, Ill.
Hope this helps some.

I think we have the same Smith. I am researching Draper's. I have the marriage of Richard Clare Draper to Caroline Smith. I have 8 children and one of the sons middle name is Beatty. I also have a picture of Richard, Caroline and her brother William Smith. Would you be interested in sharing if we are connected.

Hi,
I'm having problems tracking down my Smith Ancestor.
I have a Hannah Smith born 1800, Mary Smith born 1802 and Mary Jane Smith born 1808. All three girls married into the MAJOR family. My guess is that their father might have been a Henry H. Smith who had Lot 19 Con V July 8 Pickering in 1799. The Smith farm was located next to the John Major farm Lot 18 Con 5 Pickering in 1802. Does any of this information connect with your Smith family?

Find a good deal of information on the decendants of John McGahan and Rachel Smith at the link I have posted below. I descend from George Sipps, son of Polly McGahan and Benjamin Sipps.

I know it's been awhile since you posted this but I have information handed down to me from a relative of my grandfather Smith years back. Not sure where she got it but it is a follows. My 3rd Great Grandfather William Smith born in 1771 in the USA and died 1854 in Pickering, and his Wife Abigil Wilson or Willson 1781 in USA to 1861 Pickering...their son my 2nd Great Albert Smith 1804 Can. to 1880 St. Clair county, MI married Lavina Atwell 1812 Can. to 1857 St. Clair co., MI this is his siblings: Brothers: George, Samuel, William, and Thomas.....sisters and husbands: Jane Smith married Henry Major....Mary/Polly Smith married Samuel Major.....Mahala Smith married James Lamoreaux...Sally Smith married Joseph Howell....and Hannah Smith married first to Thomas Major and Tom' sister Hannah Major married Peter Matthews (famous Canada hero) when Hannah Major and her brother Tom died Peter married Hannah Smith. I don't know if this might help at all or how right it is since she didn't have any info on where she obtained this. I haven't been able to go any farther back than William and Abigil (Wilson) Smith. I do have pictures of Wm. and Abigil head stones.
