I too am looking for my Smith ancestors in the Whitby area.
I do have information on some of them, and they go back to 1790 in Whitby. I do have a Smith/Young connection.
Is it possible we have communicated before, Robin?

My 2nd GGFather, John Benjamin Smith married Janet ( Jane ) Young in Whitby abt. 1830, and migrated to Nauvoo IL, where all of the family died except a daughter named Lois, my GGrandmother.
John Benjamin was the son of John Smith and Nancy Beatty.
John was the son of Henry Smith, born in Germany we believe in 1734. He migrated to America, NY we think, and then to Ontario abt. 1790. We have extensive records on the Young line, back to Scotland.
It's the Beatty line that has us stumped. If we could trace her back to NY, we may be able to locate her. We know she was "half Irish & half Yank", as described in some old family letters.
Doesn't sound like we link up, but we know there were many Smith and Young family's that stayed in the Whitby area.

Robin,
I do have Smith/Young information from the Whitby area, but all of my families originated in the US, and moved to Whitby about 1790. My Young families were
Scotch, and were in Ontario before that.
Contact me at McOmber@Montana.com if I can be of help.

Hello Mark,
My Smiths and Youngs came to Whitby by way of Halifax Nova Scotia. DAvid Smith came from Halifax with MAry Young his wife around 1846/1847. Mary Young came to Halifax with her father James Young from Edinburgh, Scotland and before that Berwick upon Tweed. James Young's sister was a Barbara Young who married John Rochester. John came to Rouses Point NY in 1818 from Northumberland England. He moved to Ottawa in 1822-24 where he became one of the founder sof present day Ottawa and a major land owner there. Not sure of any connection but you never know

Hey Smith from Whitby. I wonder what is your Wilkinson connection. I'll check your other posts and see but do me a favour and reply would you? Thanks.

I have a William Young married to a Catherine Mulloy. Son, William, lived in Whitchurch. William married Elizabeth McQuilan 1856 in Newmarket. They had a daughter, Elizabeth who married James Finlay in Whitchurch in 1890.

I've been trying to find out if this is the Young family that my Mary Margaret Young married to John Pegg might belong.
