I looked for your people and found the following. The family lived in Tecumseth Simcoe county. This board is Simcoe Norfolk county we are on lake Erie, they are on lake Simcoe and a long distance from us. But I did follow your people on the census. First 1851 census is interesting because it tells when the couple married 1848. The question was suppose to be if they married within the year but this census taker put down the marriage year for everybody. (good for researching) second John died between 1871 and 1881 so there should be a death record. Also the next entry on the 1851 is a widow Mary McMahon you should follow her. And if you try the Simcoe county board they may have newspaper records Angie

Thank you so much for checking on this. Yes, they did marry in 1848 in Ireland. They came to Canada in 1849. My great grandmothers name was Ann Quinlan. Not sure who Mary McMahon is.
Is the Simcoe County Board the name of a newspaper? I'll look it up and see what I can find. Do you have an idea what it would cost to put an ad in the paper up there? I live in California, we have a little paper here (as well as the monster paper that is soooo expensive to place an ad) that is delivered once a week via US Postal Service. It's about the size of a TV Guide. Do u have anything like that up there?

If you email me at my home address I will see what I can find & send it to you. I can not cut & paste to this site. I guess the easiest way to explain the confusion is Simcoe County and Simcoe Norfolk County is like a town in Southern California & a town in Northern California. But I do have access to a number of free sites & will do some look ups for you my email is white@flarenet.com

Rosemary,
While researching my wife's McMahon family, I saw your Ancestry post. Your grandfather and my wife's grandfather were brothers. Her grandfather was Michael "Mickey" John McMahon (1864-1947). He moved to Montana and raised a family there.

Her father never talked much about his family, so she was blown away to find out there were 15 additional families.

If you would care to correspond about the McMahons, my wife would be thrilled.

Love to hear from you,
Bill and Jude (McMahon) Albright

Hello Jude & Bill,
I love this, finding relatives I didn't know existed. How fun. So, what are we, cousins? Do you know anything about John L. McMahon? I haven't found out who his parents are or what town they lived in in County Clare Ireland. I want to go to Ireland one of these days. I had Ian Mitchell contact me from Australia who is a cousin. His great grandparents are our great grandparents on the Ann Quinlan side. Thanks for contacting me. I live in San Diego, CA, where are you? I wish we could find someone in Ontario, Canada who would have information on our family, especially if they would have a family Bible and or pictures. I'd love to see what our great grandparents looked like. I look forward to hearing from you again. my e-mail address is 1roz@cox.net
