James Arthur Maxwell, husband of Olive B. Buckley
Looking for any information on James Arthur Maxwell, first husband of Olive B. Buckley (of Waterford), and father of Lillian (Mayers).
Olive was residing with her parents in Brantford in 1919, so I wonder if James was either fighting in WWI or was deceased. Olive remarried to Isaac Roy Duesling before 1927, and resided in Waterford for the rest of her life (she died in 1978). Her obituary states that she was predeceased by both husbands.
Any clues on Norfolk Maxwell's would be appreciated.
Thanks, Tim L

Re: James Arthur Maxwell, husband of Olive B. Buckley
Hi Ingrid,
Thank you so much for solving my mystery!
I had thought that Olive's husband was in the war, but of course, did not know whether he had been killed in service. I had looked at James Arthur Maxwell's Attestation Papers before, but thought I was on the wrong track because he enlisted in Alberta.
I never thought to check the site of Commonwealth War Graves Commission, where my answer was all along.
Anyways, thank you so much for your help!

Re: James Arthur Maxwell, husband of Olive B. Buckley
Hi Shirley, thank you for your reply.
Olive Beatrice Buckley was born in Cheapside, Walpole Twp., on 29 Feb 1888. She died in Simcoe, Norfolk Co., Ontario on 30 Nov 1978. She is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Waterford with her second husband, Isaac Roy Duesling, and her daughter by James Maxwell, Lillian (Mrs. George Mayers). Lillian died 23 Jan 1984. Her husband is apparently still living. Olive and her second husband had one son, who is still living in Waterford.
I am curious to know the names of the parents of James Arthur Maxwell, and any information about where he grew up, etc. I do not yet know the date or location of his marriage to Olive, though I find it difficult to imagine that she would have been out West. Perhaps James met her in Ontario? I wonder if anyone in your family has heard anything about where they met and were married.
I hope you can fill in some of the missing pieces.

Re: James Arthur Maxwell, husband of Olive B. Buckley
James' father's name was also James Maxwell. His wife's name was Ann Mcdonald, she was born in Shader, Scotland. As far as we know James, the father was born on a boat coming over from Scotland, that is where I am stuck at doing the family tree. The boat must have been a USA, as his citizenship is listed as American. Did Lillian have any children, are you a descendant? I have been working on the Maxwell family tree off and on for a few years. Do you know if James had any other brothers or sisters? Our grandfather was George and I know there was also a brother Daniel. It would be nice to get more info on the Maxwells if you have any. Shirley is my sister, she answered your query about James Arthur Maxwell. I also have a copy of his military records. That is where we found out about Olive. She lived in Calgary in 1915-16.

Re: James Arthur Maxwell, husband of Olive B. Buckley
Hi Marilyn,
Thank you for your interesting reply. I am not a descendent of Olive, but she is a distant relative. Olive's maternal grandmother, Jane (Widdis) Brown, was a cousin of my gg grandfather. I started researching Olive, and her nine siblings, as part of a wider project on Jane descendents. I haven't had much luck unfortunately tracking down most of her siblings.
Have you looked at the Attestation Papers for James Arthur Maxwell, available online through the website of the National Archives of Canada? On the papers, he mentions his next of kin as a sister Rebecca. Obviously this was before his marriage.
I am curious what is your source on the fact that Olive was living in Calgary? That would explain so much for me! I can't make any connection between Haldimand or Norfolk County, Ontario and James.
Thank you for your reply.

Re: James Arthur Maxwell, husband of Olive B. Buckley
On James' war records it listed his enlistment as Calgary,Alta. It listed Olive as living in Calgary, her address was just general delivery. This document was dated Aug. 27, 1915. They must have moved there before or so he could enlist out there. James sailed from Halifax on the SS. Baltic.

Re: James Arthur Maxwell, husband of Olive B. Buckley
I am the great granddaughter of the late Isaac Ray Duesling of Waterford, On. Isaacs' first wife was Arvilla Lefler. Isaacs' second wife was Olive Buckley Maxwell. I am trying to locate Olive and Isaacs son. Possibly his name is Harold. Do you have any information on him? I can fill in the missing information on Isaac and Arvillas' children to some extent.
