Hello, I'm trying to find information on my gg grandparents. John Donaldson and Mary Chabot. They had at least two children. Joseph John Donaldson Jr and James Donaldson.
Joseph John and James married the Lariviere sisters. Joseph John married Alice Lucy, and James married Elaine Edna. Joseph John and Alice had several children. Gilbert Allen, Joseph John Wilfred, Jaqueline.
I am the grandson of Joseph John Wilfred Donaldson. I can not trace this side of my family beyond John Donaldson and Mary Chabot. The only reference I have for John and Mary is on the marriage certificate for Joseph John Donaldson and Alice Lucy Lariviere.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Check out Mary Jabot from Mattawa. Just a hunch. Her real family name was Antoine but this family has also being called, Jawbone,Jeanbone,Gambone and Nijkwiwisens.

Thank you. I will try that. The Mary Chabot I'm looking for was born July 1893 in Mattawa. I believe she died in 1945. She married a man named John Donaldson from Norway. They had several kids together.

Thanks for the help. I finally found some answers. It turns out her name was actually Mary Commandant. She was the daughter of Chabot Commandant and Suzanne Antoine/Nijkwiwisens.
Does anyone know why the Nijkwiwisens family was called numerous names such as Antoine and Jean Bone or Jaw Bone?
Also on different documents Mary wrote her last name differently some she used the commandant last name and on others she wrote Chabot. Does anyone know why this might be?
My uncle told me that he heard that some women when their father died would take his first name as their last name. Perhaps that's why she stopped writing her last name as Commandant and changed it to Chabot.

Mary Commandant born 1873 or 1878 approx was my grandmother. Her father was Jabot Commandant and mother was Susan Nijkwiwisens. She took on the Chabot because she was married or living with Larry Chabot. It is also spelled Sharbot and sherbet, depending on what census you are researching. Spelling was not the best back then as most fokes couldn't read or write and the census taker would write it down the way it sounded. Mary was also listed as Command on some records.

I thank you for the reply. I think she may have just been living with Larry Chabot. Unless he passed away and she remarried. I have marriage documents showing the marriage of a Mary Commander (commandant on another certificate) marrying my great great grandfather Joseph John Donaldson. It list's Mary's parents as Chabot Commandant and Susan Antoine. Who I understand was Susan Nijkwiwisens.
Do you know if Mary had a middle name? Mary and Joseph had a son Joseph John Louis Donaldson. In his military file he states his mother's name as Mary Victoria.
From documents I have found it seems her birth was July 1872 or 1873.

Sorry to confuse things but, wasn't the marriage of Joseph and Mary in 1911? The marriage record I saw listed Mary as being 19 yrs old. Making her birth around 1892. See the attached record for Victoire.
