Re: Euphrosine Madeleine Nicolet, metis daughter of Jean Nicolet
Hello Tara & Gilbert! I have been told that I am also descended from Madeleine Nicolet thru her marriage to an Elie Dussault, her 2nd marriage I believe. Madeleine Nicolet/Dussault would be my 9th-g-grandma, so Tara, we must be the same generation.... One of the other postings here lists the Native name of Jean Nippising (thats how I have her listed in my Tree) would love to know the Native name of the 'savauge' that hooked up with Jean Nicolet. I have read that Madeleine was their illegitimate daughter. I guess I need to research this more.....there is so much out there. I have listed in the surname section the last names of my line.... Hope to hear from anyone! Thank you! Joyce Michigan

Re: Euphrosine Madeleine Nicolet, metis daughter of Jean Nicolet
Not much information is know, although I found this while researching one day:
Jean Nicolet a eu une conjointe amérindienne du lac Nipissing : Jeanne Gisis-Bahmahmaadjimiwin (merci à Lucie Codère pour cette précision d'importance) . Une fille est née née en 1628 à Québec, de cette union : Euphrasie-Madeleine Nicolet (1628 - 1689). Cette information est consignée aux registres nationaux, des mariages aux pages 788 et 994. De ce fait, une descendance métisse est issue de cette union.
TRANSLATION: Jean Nicolet had an affaire with an American Inidan of Lakie Nipissing: Jeanne Gisis-Bahmahmaadjimiwin (thanks to Lucie Codere for this note of importance.) A daughter was born in 1628 in Quebec of the union: Euphrasie-Madeleine Nicolet (1628-1689). This information is kept in national registers, the marriages on pages 788 and 994. Due to this, a half blook descendant came from this union.
I had found a birthdate of around 1602 for Jeanne, born in Lac Nipissing, Quebec, Canada and died in Quebec, but I have not been able to find the date of death.

Re: Euphrosine Madeleine Nicolet, metis daughter of Jean Nicolet
I am glad I found this thread. I am also a descendant of Jean Nicolet and Elie Dussault. I have done some research on this. This is my lineage.
Jeanne Barrie Cramer
My mother’s (Genevie Fleurette Dussault) family came from Montreal , Quebec. Her father’s name was Elzear (know as Edward from his middle name Eduoard). (born 1878/ died on 3-28-34. He was married to Emeline Bergeron (1881-1956.
Edward’s father was Anthanase Dussault (born in Lauzon, PQ, on 6-11-1851) and he was married to Zoe LeClaire on 9-16-1872 in Fall River, MA
Anthanase’s parents were Godfroid Dussault and Angele Roy , married on 5-5-1845 Lauzon, P>Q>
Godfroid’s parents were: Marcel Dussault and Adelaide Talbot-Gervais: St. Henri, Lauzon 1-16-1815
Marcel’s parents: Marcel Dussault and Genevieve Cantin (Kentin) married St. Joseph de Levis 9-28-1795
Marcel’s parents were: Jean Dussault and Marie-Anne Demers married at St. Joseph de levis , Lauzon 3-5-1764
Jean’s parents were: Jean Dussault and Angelique Huard married at S.t Joseph, Lauzon, 12-30-1728
Jean’s parents were: Jean Francois Dussault (dit LaFleur—he was a navigateur) and Madeleine Bourassa married at St. Joseph, lauzon, 1-8-1692.
Jean-Francois’s parents were: Elie Dussault (dit LaFleur) (born in LaRochelle, France, baptized 09-07-1635, Temple Calviniste) He was a sailor (matelot) and M. Madeleine-Euphrosine Nicolet married in Quebec 2-2-1663. [Madeleine-Euphronsine Nicolet was the widow of (Jean LaBlanc).
Madeliene had been previously married to Jean LeBlanc in 1643 and had 5 children (1 may have died) Jacques LeBlanc, Madeleine LeBlanc, Marguerite LeBlanc and Noel LaBlanc.
After Jean LeBlanc died, Madeleine married Elie Dussault (dit LeFleur) in 1663 and had 4 children: Louis Dussault, Pierre Dusault dit La Blanc, Jean-Francois Dusault and Charles Dusault [I only knew of Jean-Francois (my ancestor), the others I found on a web site [JBC Note: I am not sure why Pierre would call himself LaBlanc, Jean LeBlanc died in 1662 and Pierre was born in 1665]
Madeleine’s father was: Jean Nicolet (explorer, interpreter, negotiator, who got along with the Native American people and lived among them for a time. He was reported to be the first white man to enter Michigan and Wisconsin and discovered Lake Michigan. He is celebrated in Green Bay Wisconsin with a monument. His name has appeared in several books and some have been written about him as one of the great explorers of the new world. It is said that he was sent here with Samuel de Champlain by the French Government. The Jesuits spoke highly of his character. (some websites says that Jean was born in 1598 in Cherbourg, France and died in 1642 in Three Rivers (or Sillery) Quebec). There is a town in Ontario, Nicolet, named after him. He married in 1620 to an Nipissing Indian Princess (said to be the daughter of a Chief) [her name is uncertain--it has appeared as Jeanne (perhaps her Christian name) or Sauvagesse Nipissing on some web sites]. The Nipissing Tribe was somehow related to the Algonquins. They were a gentle spiritual people (shamans were among them). They were friendly to the French (possibly due to their friendship with Jean Nicolet) and converted to Christianity through their alliance with the Jesuits.
Elie’s parents were: Francois Dussault and Marie Delaunay, also from La Rochelle, France.
Elie Dussault and Jean Nicolet were our first Canadian ancestors
Jean Nicolet’s parents were : Thomas Nicolet born in: Cherbourg, Normandie, France and Marguerite Delamer
NOTE: I have entered my information in One Great Family website about a year ago. When you add in your information, other people's common ancesters connect and it builds upon itself. [you have to make corrections as some people don't have the correct information]. I still could not get directly back from Jean Nicolet's parents (Thomas and Marie Delaunay). I recommend you check this website. You can get a trial membership and also download GED files.

Objet : Re: Euphrosine Madeleine Nicolet, metis daughter of Jean Nicolet
Hello,
I have seen your message about Jean Nicolet being the first European to discover the Michigan.
It seems that it was a mistake and that Jean Nicolet had never been there. See Jacques Gagnon about Jean Nicolet and correction of this mistake.
But sure this ancestor was an exceptional man!

Hello Jacinthe, I couldn't find the reference that you mentioned by Jacques Gagnon. Do you have the web address? I tried to search and couldn't find it. I would like to find out what he says. I only know what I have read while researching it on the Internet and the references in books by the Jesuits and other historians. They all refer to him as the first European to travel that route. If you put in a search for Green Bay Wisconsin, there is a lot of information there, showing the painting that was depicted about his arrival there. See this link http://www.ci.green-bay.wi.us/geninfo/history.htmlSee also the following web site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_NicoletThanks Jeanne
